I liked Dylan’s videos. I found them well put together, researched and unostentatiously personal.
I too found it a shame that he sometimes allowed a social intolerance, bordering on vitriol, to colour his otherwise engaging narrative of his cruising grounds.
The funny thing to me, given the thousands of miles Dylan had presumably covered, was his apparent innocence of sailing. In a sortie into (I think) Christchurch he was unaware whether he would have adequate depth over the coming hour or three, despite having a chart and almanac to hand. And having sailed through the Solent, he mused that the tide had been setting westwards with him for most or all of the tidal cycle. Setting aside the knowledge or just the logic of the matter, it struck me as curious that a sailor could be unaware of how the tide had been affecting his boat’s motion for a period of hours.
He came across as a nice guy, and happy in his own skin. I suspect few of us wouldn’t buy him a beer and have a chat if we found ourselves moored next to him.
