Katie L - what font?

clarity

Interesting what Vic says

I wonder if there is any safety reason to have the name written in a clear font a

It seems that in emergency situations then it will be quite clear which yacht is in distress

we all now have vhf radios

Sorry most of them look to me like a letter has been rubbed off, need to emphasise that the L is a separate word

Anything but Comic Sans, Helvetica, Times Roman or Arial or those god-awful display fonts produced by stoned design students.

I'd quite fancy a freeform font. Maybe something like these...

Just a bit less predictable than a pure script face.

Web address?
I love the videos you produce, their down to earth, informative, back to nature in a small boat, the 'sailor next door' and above all, the non commercial, any body can do on a shoe string. Putting your web address on her will have a conflicting feel of a, Jonny Morris trying a David Attenborough style, or putting into the outboard well a 150hp.

Or have missed the point here?

We played with 100's of fonts for our new boat and eventually settled on "Times New Roman" as so many of the fonts did something weird with at least one of the letters (normally the letter "a").

The most important thing is keeping the font size in proportion to the boat. On a small boat this means that it is not really going to be visible from very far way anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about readability. Personally, I prefer scripty ones like MurrayHill.

Yes to the web address, but leave of the www. Everyone knows what a web address is and browsers don't need it anyway.

Look, a whole post to Dylan and no sarcasm! Must eat more of that vegetarian stuff.

the third one is pretty good

thanks Ken

looks like a good compromise

I am getting the letters in exchange for the old gas hob on the boat

Not missed a point - and I have my reservations about the address - although clearly lots of people don't have any problem with it at all

and I like the Corinthian amatuerism of the first five years of KTL - five years..blimey

however, during that time I completely ran out of money three times - I am a freelance and these are difficult times

I put the web address on the duck punt and sold three dvds I know of because people saw me messing with it in wells

one was from a bloke who saw it on top of the car....

so it works

I agree it smacks of commercialism - but the project needs to crack up a gear if it is to survive

hence the investment from this end

these are easy times for giving stuff away

and a diffiuclt time for selling digits

amazingly I am back to selling curiously arranged blobs of ink on pages of sailing magazines which I thought was a long dead profession

Definitely the web address then you can claim some of the running costs against expenses with your tax- you are self-employed aren't you? ;);)

Have seen some web addresses up the mast, one on each side - looks OK to me.

I like 5 for the boat name. I agree with others that the web address needs to be in a more legible font like arial or courier.

Sorry to do this. Have I missed the bit where Katy L, or Katy Elle were suggested.

Is there a special reason for it to be Katie?

K T L

Katey Ell was suggested first followed by Katy L or Katie L, Katie Elle etc

It took a few moments for the penny to drop when Katey Ell was suggested :(

Katie L has emerged as the best suggestion... rightly so IMHO
