Katie L - what font?

My question is "Why is Katie being spelled with an IE and not a Y?"

If a Y is used the confusion of "e"s in using Elle would not exist.

I think "Katie" is the more normal spelling of the name.

I like it, together with the "L" rather than "El" or "Elle". As Dylan says, it's vaguely reminiscent of fishing boat names, whereas the others are more obvious attempts at the pun.

Yes. Strangely enough that had not escaped my attention.

Katie L is still better than Katy Elle however you spell Katy.

One looks like a boat's name the other some sllicone enchanced female celebrity/ model's name.

Sorry to do this. Have I missed the bit where Katy L, or Katy Elle were suggested.

Is there a special reason for it to be Katie?
Does it mean Keep Trying Lakey?
Sorry Phil, couldn't resist, especially as I got my own well-deserved whooooosh award from you the other day! :)

Very personal thing is typefaces, My preference is for the Gabriela posted by Twister Ken, (and I also agree with his feelings about Comic Sans!). The web address is essential, as my guess is that there will be quite a few KTL followers who will meet Dylan on his travels and maybe not recognise his new vessel without such a visual prompt, apart from the obvious marketing thing.
All imo of course.

I do want to thank you guys for your interest in such a subject

I was completely lost

and as for Lakey being so slow on the optake - he is usually right on the money on so many subjects and is a talented photypic man to boot

must be all that time he spends in the best boatshed in Britain measuring water depths

I must say it would be so wonderful to keep a boat in that shed and be able to stroll down and take the boat out for a short spin

what he is doing with a mobo in there I have no idea

as for the Minstrel

I must confess that I rather liked the existing name -George Gunn - for its pure eccentricity

but my son - who is more intelligent and perceptive than me as he has better genes - at least half of them come from Jill - pointed out that there are three drawback to the old name

1/ people will assume that it is my name

2/people will ask me why the boat is called George Gunn and then I will have to explain again and again and also tell me about Benn Gunn

3/ the worst scenario - cricket nuts who who know the name will come strolling up the pontoon with a copy of a pre-war wisdens under their arm and expect to have a long cockpit conversation about test tours during the thirties while they drink my whisky.

as I have a pathological fear of cricket balls since I saw the bloke beside me in the slips catch a corker - the ball went between his ring and big finger and split his hand about two inches between the fingers

it was hideous

Perhaps if you did call her Katy L then young ladies with enhanced chests may come strolling up the pontoon with a copy of a the Daily Star under their arm and expect to have a long cockpit "conversation" about tits while they drink your whisky

I don't know if you spotted it, but a boat with a big stick won't go in the boathouse.

but you could get a great dinghy with a gunter rig

short sticks

as for a daily star bird.....

I am now past the age of consent

rather an old man with a bottle of whisky came down the pontoon

he could then talk about whatver he liked

A Post Boat would be ideal. Except they are a tad slow.

The weather we've had for the past couple (?) of years has been a bit of a pain for sailing.
Either no wind or shed-loads of it.
Where are those lovely sunny days with an f3 Westerly gone?
That's what suits a small boat on the lake. (Actually that's what we have today, but I can't be arsed :()

straight

Whatever font you choose, you'll undo all the effect if you don't get it on straight!

the supply, application and alignment is in the hands of a fellow forumite barry H

he heads up a massive shop refurbishmwent conglomeration

in return for the gas stove from Katie L (something of a collectors item I understand) he has offered to undertake the supply and fitting of names

seems like a good deal

so if they are not straight - not down to me

Not 4,6,7 ( but a phone screen ain't exactly the topsides for viewing)

Photoshop would let you print your top choice(s) economically as an outline only, at full size and then colour in by hand with a magic marker.
Blutac-ing the result to the boat , step back....hours can be wasted and indeed some ink:eek:

I have done this to set out lifebouy stencilling etc and some glued-on hypalon rubber anti-theft cut outs of the name for inflatable dinghies

Photoshop will also let you try position, size and colour in the comfort of your own home using a nice piccy of the boat (or someone else's).

Wonderful thing, Photoshop :D

Four fonts walk into a bar and ask for a pint.

Landlord says "Clear off you lot! I'm not having your type in here!"

(sorry - someone had to...):D

Yes point taken 'devil if you do and devil if you don't

Not missed a point - and I have my reservations about the address - although clearly lots of people don't have any problem with it at all

and I like the Corinthian amatuerism of the first five years of KTL - five years..blimey

however, during that time I completely ran out of money three times - I am a freelance and these are difficult times

I put the web address on the duck punt and sold three dvds I know of because people saw me messing with it in wells

one was from a bloke who saw it on top of the car....

so it works

I agree it smacks of commercialism - but the project needs to crack up a gear if it is to survive

hence the investment from this end

these are easy times for giving stuff away

and a diffiuclt time for selling digits

amazingly I am back to selling curiously arranged blobs of ink on pages of sailing magazines which I thought was a long dead profession
