Kapersky internet security----any good?

I've just signed up and installed this offer - so far so good. It doesn't seem as intrusive as Nortons but has warned about possibly dodgy files coming in.

Cheers

Yes, very good. I'd rate it as one of the best, though Nod32 is what I'd recommend if you want the best and want to pay.

Free software, then Avast or AVG.

Is this not meant to be a boating forum? Perhaps we should all go to a computer forum to discuss our interests in boating!!!

It's a forum, you get on here by using computers, so there is always going to be discussion of computer issues. The title of the thread was quite clear, so you didn't have to read it if not interested. Lastly, if you don't think a post should be made, here, notify the moderators and let them decide.

The advantage of Kaspersky is that it catches the malware on it's way in over the web rather than dealing with it when it's there - plus it makes a great screaming noise when it kills viruses!

Not sure I understand that statement. All antiviruses work in effectively the same way, blocking malware from entering the computer from the net, as well as providing hard drive scans, so there is no advantage in the basic way it works. What makes a difference is how effective it is at blocking viruses, and how much system resources are used doing it.

If you have it coming up in a boating forum there must be something wrong with your computer. I'm interested in boating. Are there any good forums I should know about.

Found the product very good, been using it now for 12 months, have had to have my PC unstitched (£80) from existing Norton as there are supposed to be conflicts if this is not done.

How did you do that? Don't tell me you paid someone £80!

Ahh...

I had Norton and AVG and my firefox had an annoying memory leak that I couldn't fix. Is that the cause? I've been using Safari. Nice browser, but it lacks Firefox's add-ons.

All that said Norton Systemworks 2005 is brilliant. Earlier versions don't recognise multi-boot setups, later versions far too messy. Avoid installing the virus checker.

Will try Kasperky. Thanks for the heads up!
