In looking for another boat and have come across a yacht called a Kalik 33 (the one I'm particularly interested in is the AK version with the after cabin). I think it is Dutch designed and built.

Does anyone know of this boat or can give me any information about it?

Many thanks

Les

There is a very good boat report on the Kalik33 available from the back issues department at ipc magazines. It does a comparitive article with some of her contemporaries as I recall. I think the general concensus was that she was fast and very spacious compared with the competition due to a very a generous beam for the era. I looked at her as one of the alternatives to the Carter 33 Concubine. There has been a beautifully kept example in Looe (Cornwall) for many years. When someone hangs onto a boat for a long time and lavishes care and attention (and presumably money) on her it is usually an indication that there is something right about the boat. As she's not well known over here you would probably be able to get a lot of boat for your money.

I have a had a look on some Dutch sites and have come up with two example plus one in France. However the one I fancy is the aft cabin version of which one is in Holland. Thanks for the info - and keep it coming folks!

Thanks for the info - what made you decide on the Carter rather than the Kalik? Regarding the article in the IPC mag, do you know which mag and roughly how long ago?

Thanks.

I didn't decide on either, met and fell in love with a beautiful Elizabethan 31, which I still have (can be viewed in yahoo/groups/pbomeet etc) and I have never regretted the decision. The Carter 33 I looked at was the 'Concubine' rather than the plain 33. The Concubine is fitted out to a much higher accommadation spec for comfy cruising, however the Kalik with a somewhat broader transom actually had IMHO better accommodation possibilities.. To get the info you don't have to know the magazine you are looking for. Just tell the nice lady who does it at ipc back numbers the name of the boat and she will present you with a list of everything they have on that boat, including what type of article (eg boat report, comparitive study, etc) and how many pages, and how much per page, and then you simply tell her which ones you want to see. I seem to remember they could be posted or faxed-perhaps they can be emailed in these days of broadband!!!! She is also featured in 'The Good Yacht Guide' but I can't find my copy at the moment. I found GYG well worth the money when drawing up a short list of possibles. It's very helpful in coming up with boats that no one seems to have heard of, like the Kalik and Liz31 where because of lack of fame you can get an awful lot more boat for your money!!! Best £10.95 I ever spent (beer excepted of course). Had I not met the Boat I now have I would have gone for the Kalik if I could have found one in good condition, but as I say, I was only comparing her with boats built about five years either side of her.
