Hi All

New to this posting malarky, so please excuse me if I contravene any normal conventions. I have a Proline 26 foot sportsfishing boat, which is a little embarrassing as I struggle to catch fish of any sort. Anyway I am looking for a little advice. I have recently had the engine out to have some oil leaks and having just had the engine refitted I am finding it difficult to find out where the rocker box engine breather pipe should be connected to. I hoped someone may know where this goes or someone who has a KAd44 who could take a look and let me know. At the moment the pipe is connected to the rocker box drops to a connection which I believe separates the oil from the oil fumes it then connects onto the sump to drain the oil back into the sump, from this connection unit there is about a metre of pipe left floating around the engine bay. No one seems to know where it should be connected to. I cant find any details to get hold of anyone at Volvo and my local dealer doesn't know.

Any ideas anyone, I would appreciate you help

Thanks

Paul

Pipe comes from rocker box, down centre of engine injection pump side into separator then drains into sump, if the pipe is not connected then that's where you leak may be.

I'd be asking whoever did the work to sort this.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the help, the leaks were from the sump and other pipes which have now been replaced. I have asked them why the breather pipe is just lying on top of the engine, but they reckon it isn't connected to anything and just discharges into the engine bay/ bilge, I am suspicious this isn't the case (Especially as it had a jubilee clip on the end) and am worried this will cause a mess in my newly cleaned and painted engine bay. I currently work in the motor industry and all other vehicle engine breathers I have seen discharge into the air intake after the filter to get re burnt. I was hoping someone may be able to tell me where to connect breather end from the separator if they look at their engine. If you have any photos or know anyone who could clear this up I would be very grateful.
Cheers

The said pipe goes from the rocker box to the right side of engine looking from front, down back of plate that holds oil filter housing and injector pipes, down side of block to oil box. If the pipe is blowing oil out you have a piston blowby problem which isn't good.

Hi Paul

It isn't blowing oil only a small amount of smoke, which no doubt will have some oil mist in it. The connections I have are, engine rocker box to separator ok and separator to sump ok, I am told the other pipe from the separator (the one that is at the moment flailing around) which is a breather doesnt need to be connected at the one end.

I hope that makes sense

Cheers

Sorry... had a look at KAD43s.... the breather pipe just goes from the rocker box to the air box (under the air filter) there is no oil seperator.

Workshop manual no help either, just says KAD 44/300 have their own system.
Suggest that the hose should probably lead back to the air intake.
ie Breather from rocker cover down to top of oil separator, bottom hose back to sump, side hose (recycled air) back to air intake.... would seem logical.

Morning Pmitch.

This hose is typically positioned below the air filter. It runs from port side of engine to Sbd side around rear of block (where the oil filter pipes run).

It does not connect to anything.

My advice is to extend it and let it drain into a container. You may find no oil drains out at all.

Thanks for the feedback, it seems a bit odd just discharging into the engine bay, but that is what the boat yard have told me too, it just looks strange as they have left it trailing across the top of the engine pointing roughly in the direction of the air filter inlet, which wasn't where it was originally positioned. If it's supposed to be clipped around the back of the block that is why I hadn't noticed it before.

It doesn't smoke much so hopefully wont cause an issues I was just brassed off as it seemed the boatyard were just fobbing me off yet again and the current install position looks pants

Thanks for the help
Cheers
