I have a Volvo KAD44 dual station
Inget error code 1.5
Have tried to recalibrate the controls many times but i keep getting the same error. How do i tell if the whole edc is bad?

Shaft drive or stern drive ?
You need to find the fault that’s giving the code , you won’t be able to calibrate if you have any fault code.

It is a stern drive.
The manual says that entering this calibration will clear this particular error code.
I already tried to clear the error codes as well, as per the manual. This one does not clear. It says to check connections to the EDC, which all seem good.

Do you have a neutral light when you turn ignition on after pressing the active station button ?

I tried to enter calibration mode by key to stop pos. And release
Press and hold N button while turning key to ignition
Release when Diagnose light turns off

then i get Active station and diagnose lights flashing continuously

You need neutral light and diagnostic light flashing together to be in calibration mode .
No neutral light tells me you have a shift actuator problem there is a neutral switch inside the actuator that is manually driven to select position, sounds like the actuator is in gear or just off neutral position, disconnect the shift cable and try to select neutral by hand with the shift peg.

I see 4 micro switches inside the shift actuator - the two middle ones are fairly close together - is neutral supposed to be in between these two, or on one of the two being closed?

It is single engine with outdrive, dual control station,. I do not get a neutral light at all
I get both diagnostic and active station flashing.
I cannot get active station light to stay on.
Diagnostic button gives me error code 1.5.

My gauge cluster also does not come active - it did briefly when a volvo tech has a diagnostic computer hooked up - had some loose connections in the 16 pin connector in black box on top of engine. All connections good now - gauge cluster still not active.

I assume the ECU is OK since it gives me an error code? or perhaps this error code can still be generated with a bad ECU?

The actuator seems to be working OK - with the exception of the neutral light. When key goes on, it does a minor rotation of the actuator motor as it is supposed to. I have taken this apart and manually moved the gears and the neutral light does not light in any position.

Is there a wiring diagram for the actuator itself so I can test the micro switches and relays in the actuator>

THere are 4 wires on the board.
EDC + (red).
F.B. (yellow)
PRIM (Green/blue)
SEC (Green/Black).

I assume red is 12V+
Feedback...is this through a potentiometer?
Is PRIM for forward?
Is SEC for Reverse?

Further examination: between wire 1 and 16 shows 12.6 volts until key is turned.
Some relays engage as normal... can hear the clicks.
Voltage drops to about 5V
This must either be a bad connection dropping the voltage or a relay has a bad coil.

The blue/red wire shows about 4.5V, hence the alarm and gauge cluster not working. Any idea where to look for this severe voltage drop?
