Hey I’m new here and have a question. I’m having some issues with my 2000 Volvo Kad44 edc single station. Intermittently when starting I push the active station button and cannot get the neutral light to light up to start the motor Seems like it won’t connect to the throttle, this seems to happen more often after running then shutting down and starting again. Throttle can always find neutral while running no problems there but I can shut down in neutral and will have the issues without touching the throttle. Any suggestions? Any way to just bypass picking the station as I only have the one? Thanks

Is it stern drive ?

Engine won’t start unless edc system can see neutral so it’s either the throttle potentiometer or the shift actuator micro switch is not in the neutral position .

Yes I have a throttle potentiometer on it way, should be here tomorrow. I will update next time I’m out which will be in a week or so. Just if anyone is reading this in the future the part number I got for the potentiometer is a Bosch 0280122001. Seems to be very common.

Why do you have a station selection button if you only have one station. Was this a factory fitted engine?

I had twin Kad 44's on the Hunton and obviously 1 helm position. but also had to press the "Active Station" button before the engines could be started. this was factory fitted.

Yes, in a factory fitted 2000 Grady white 274. I would prefer to just get rid of the button if it’s a simple task?
The "Active Station" button is actually the button that activates the boat's EDC system. On later KAD44's (I guess you have an 'A' or 'B' series engine with the bright coloured buttons) the button actually just has a key symbol on it.

I can't see that disabling this button is doable as it's integral to the EDC system. As well as the suggestions that Volvo Paul has made above, I would check that you have a battery in good condition (have it properly drop tested) and that it's getting charge from your battery charger / alternator. I'd also check and clean properly (with Contact Cleaner) all of the engine connections (particularly the one a foot or so back from the control panel).

Alas, the root cause might be a duff ECU which will be an expensive fix, assuming VP re-start production of the part soon.

I think I have fixed the issue, connector at the shift actuator seemed to cause/fix the issue when I would move it around. I have replaced the connector with a new deutsch connector and it seems to be working fine so hopefully that issue is resolved.
I am having another issue that when I come off the throttle fast to idle speed the rpms will sometimes stay up around 1500rpm. I also have had it stall out a few times. Both old and new throttle potentiometers did this. New fuel filters as well. Any ideas? Thanks

RPM sensor

I am assuming this is the sensor? I cleaned it off and cleaned connector and will probably order a new one assuming it’s a relatively cheap part. Heading out tomorrow so I will see what cleaning it does.

you cant test the sensor with a multimeter and a bit of metal
it sits v close to the flywheel that has a gap in it to change the status of the sensor
i recently replaced mine with a volvo truck part, fixed my problem
