Hi gents,.very new to boating.Have a Volvo KAD 32 engine that had a fresh water leak from the plastic joint between the thermostat housing and the exhaust ? Removed the thermostat housing to replace seals but found that there is another seal between thermostat body and the water pump.Put in all new seals but am now getting a leak from the lower seal,is there a way of doing this job because in theory you have to push the thermostat body down onto the lower seal and across to make the seal between the body and the exhaust unit. Many thanks for any help received

Yes it’s a bitch of a job .
so remove the coolant pump , clean off the old gasket then fit the coolant pump and the stat housing up to the engine as one then rotate the plastic pipe into the manifold at the same time , apply lubricant to the o rings first , make sure the manifold is clean .
use some instant gasket on the rubber ring .
The reason it’s leaking is that it won’t be very pliable if you are using it again .
Of course the correct way is to remove the manifold !!!

Many thanks for taking the time to try and help me.It is good in a way to know that it is not a particularly easy task and that it is not me ! I have thought of removing the water pump and was going to change the belt but the nut that you loosen from the coolant belt tensioner has been at some time rounded off ! I know the head gasket was changed at some time and I have noticed that there are a lot of bolts missing all over the engine.I will carry on and remove the water pump as best as I can, once again thank you
