First post on the forum so I am hoping you all can help.

Recently we took possession of our Sealine F33 with Volvo KAD32 engines. On the first trip out after the survey around the 12knot mark the port engine warning light comes on, once you bring the revs down the warning light does go off. We also noticed a lack of RPM when the warning light came on - is this normal (safe mode)?

We have had the following work completed to resolve the issue with no success

-Change all the engine belts
-Recent impeller change
-Oil levels are good from a recent oil change
-Filters are clean
-Throttle cable change (maintenance service change)

The engine temperature in both engines when the warning light comes on is 90 so it doesn’t seem to be overheating.

We feel it could be a sensor/wiring issue, does anyone know anything else we can check to resolve the issue?

Many thanks in advance for any comments :)

Which alarm is going off.

There are from memory four different symbols on the dash. When the warning alarm sounds one of the lights comes on to tell you what the fault is.

on mine that is charging light....i had that fault once, i took the alternater off, stripped it , cleaned the brushes, SORTED hope that helps

the volvo engineer has just called and without mentioning your comments they are saying this is a charging problem from the new belts being loose to the alternator - does this sound correct?

Could be. We got the same "fault" when we soaked the alternator and the belt was slipping.

The charge light/alarm coming on along with the rev counter not reading correctly is the exact 'problem' I had recently and was due to a loose wire on the alternator. kad43's

Quick update, it seems the warning light was actually a temperature light although as I explained in my first post the temperatures in both engines do not exceed 90. Last week we sea trialled the engines again after the belt had been tightened. The warning light continued to alarm after 12knots. The engineers have now found that the belt tensioner pulley is seized however I am confused whether or not this is the problem seeing as the alarm was a temperature alert....What do you think? The temperature sensors have been checked and they are fine

The main water pump belt must be nearly hanging off for it not to turn the water pump as it drives the sc and the alternator as well and would squeel its heat out as soon as you rev the engine.

The overheat temp switch is under the exhaust manifold at the rear and often difficult to remove and change, your better conducting a sea trial with an infared gun to check for hotspots on the cooling system, first thing any engineer should check is the belts and impeller, then move on to more less obvious things in order to find the problem.

Your not in port solent by any chance are you?
