KAD 44 EDC diagnostic tool

There is no diagnostic tool that I know of other than the Volvo Vodia tool, but the EDC system does give fault codes via the yellow light on the control panel, depressing it for 5 sec causes it to display codes which are in the owners manual, a single blink with a pause then another blink is code 1.1 which is system pass = no faults.

Can i buy such an item to plug into an engine and obtain anything useful as a layperson ?

Or are there indicator lights that flash up if there is an error ?

You don't need the tool to diagnose a fault, you read it on the keypad . The only thing the key is useful for is to read the true engine hours. I once trailed a boat that showed 150 hours on the rev counter , but when I plugged the key in it had done 1100 hours, bang went that deal.

so if there are no faults, should i have the engine surveyed ?
i am not too fussed about minor issues, just dont want to be lumbered with a major mess.

and can some one explain how i activate the yellow light ? link ?

If you have the older type panel with big buttons that light up then you turn the key to ignition on position and press the Diagnostic button for for at least 3 sec then release and the button will flash any codes as a two groups of flashes with a 2sec pause inbetween. So two flashes - pause- 4 flashes is code 2.4
If you have the newer type of panel with small buttons with Leds above the buttons then you press the D button for 3 secs and the yellow Led will flash any code present. Hope this helps.
