Quick question, Iv'e been starting our Kad 32's for two seasons by turning the keys to preheat for 30 seconds and then to start, this is the way I was shown by the previous owner, engines are 2007, but through another forum have discovered there maybe no need as kad 32's have no "Glow Plugs" so the preheat stage is useless!

What actually happens when you hold the ignition keys at preheat on kad 32's ?, are the glow plug symbols on the alarm displays only there because the same displays are used on engines with glow plugs?

Yes there is no glow plug/ plugs unless they are scandanavian market engines, the dash panel is the standard panel, so is the ignition key, if all is well with your engines and more importantly your batteries then they should start no problem even in this weather, do not use any starting aerosol if your having problems this wil shorten your engine life drastically!!!!.

I ran my KAD32 yesterday for the first time in about a week, I knew the engine was very cold, so what I did to avoid straining the starter was....

Firstly, crank the engine for about 2/3 cranks to pressurise the diesel and get things moving, then stop and give the starter a break.

Give it about 20 seconds, and do it again... viola! Engine kicks into life, and you're not straining your starter by running it for a long period.

I see this as normal with the current tempratures, in the summer my engine always starts first turn of the key

Have been away for nearly three months and the KAD32s started after about 15 seconds of continuous turning over. Very pleased with that (I suspect peanuts may have started them whilst we were away). Same with car engines - best to just go for it rather than trying 5 secs, waiting and trying again

After 6 months idle my Yanmars start instantly....yes no cranking over at all just immediate life once the key is turned. Same for both engines....Even now they've been idle for a few weeks and I know they will start without any cranking over (as long as the batteries are up that is!!)
Don't hardly smoke either !!

Mind you they like a drink.......

Sorry folks just gloating !

no glowplugs

Thanks guys,
learn something new everyday, I honestly thought the preheat stage on kad 32's did something, never had a problem starting the engines, off the key in summer and cranks for approx 5-10 seconds during the winter, impressive to say there are no glow plugs.

Dont think I will be doing the preheat routine next season!
