KAD 300 vs. KAD 44

Other than the difference in hp, is one noticably better or more reliable than the other?

I ve heard some say the 300 is more stressed due to the higher output. I ve also heard its going to take the D series a while longer before it gets as reliable as the kad 300.
Still, bit embarasing to have the weedy one,isnt it?!

You can make a KAD44 into a 300 just by updating the software...

Definitly computer controlled components - you try having a black box go down on one and see what happens.

On an addendum to the above (my post) - if you use version 1 software you can achieve 300Hp rather than the 285Hp you get with the later maps.

Looking at the parts diagrams, there are several bits that are different. e.g. injection pump, cylinder heads are the same as later kad44's but not earlier ones.

Not saying that you can't wind up a KAD44 to the same output as a KAD300, but there are some differences.

I'm sure it would require a bit more than just software, don't they still have a mechanical injector pump? in which case it would need recalibrating to increase the flow etc... Interesting to know the answer.

Not a true electronic engines, however a good system, simple Bosch VP14 electronic pump with electronic governing, in other words dumb pump with smart electronic governor. All this 'black box' talk owes more to Vodoo than engineering.

The Bosch pump listings show significant differences between the two models. I do not know where the 300 stuff comes in as the MAXIMUM capability of the pump from Bosch data is 210 kW or (282 Hp) At least this is good honest ISO 8665 Hp!

We have KAD300's, and believe me I have chips with everything /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just looking at Windy 28's, and found them with both engines and wondered if one would be better in any way.

KAMD300 is the shaftdrive version.
KAD300 is on outdrives (DP-G).

Otherwise identical.

And I'm really interested in the possibility to bring them to 300hp. Would you be so kind to give me more info about this version 1 software for the KAD300? So I can give more info to the tecnician or a chip tuner (where to download it).
