Good morning to you all - I took the boat out for the first time yesterday and couldn't get past 2000 rpm and psi was showing just over 50.
Is this a sign that the turbo is on the way out?
When I fitted a new elbow clamp last month there was some corrosion but the tips did appear to still be good in terms of gap between the housing.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Jon

To me It sounds like the problem is with the compressor rather than turbo. Did you hear if the compressor engaged at around 1500 rpm? At 2000 rpm the compressor should still be providing the boost as the turbo takes over at around 2600 rpm, if I remember correctly.

Agreed..is the compressor kicking in?
Might be the clutch has gone.
If so..you will eventually get to 2700 rpm and the turbo comes on song..but you probably need very flat sea and a 5 miles run!

The engine got to 2000rpm at I would say a normal pace but that was as far as it would go even when I turned around to have the wind behind me.
Jon

I do not know if the clutch is the issue, but without the compressor it will take a some minutes for the engine to get up to 2700 for the turbo, though I suppose it might not ever get there if the boat is loaded etc..
You should be able to see if the compressor is engaging with the hatch open?

Hi Paul - it's a single engine with edc - the hull was antifouled about a month ago.
I have just pressed the diagnosistic button and has read 1-1

As a quick update - I have just noticed that the coolant is on the minimum level mark and when I switched the engine off there was a hissing sound - is there some sort of sensor to protect the engine?
Jon

These engines tend to expel excess coolant through the filler cap and settle on the minimum mark. I don’t see a problem with that nor with the hissing sound.

As far as i know, the code you mention means ’no error’.

When the compressor engages at around 1500 rpm, there is a very identifiable change in the sound of the engine. If you run with the engine hatch open, it will be even more evident.

Can you verify that the compressor is working?

I will try to verify the compressor is working later - one thing I did notice was the fuel consumption seemed to be a lot higher.
Thank you for the help so far
Jon

Right - I had a good look around the engine and found soot on the turbo elbow - I then sqoaze the hose at the rear of the elbow and could feel the air coming out at the joint of the elbow / turbo.
I loosened the clamp and reseated the elbow to the turbo and re- tightened the clamp sqoaze the hose again and no air.
Could this air leek contribute to the supercharger not working?

I have started engine and put it in neutral and took the revs up to 1500rpm which it got there almost immediately with no hesitation.

See #3
Two separate go faster items bolted to your engine

Si, they only rev to 1500 in N at the dock anyhow ,

Comp kicks in @ 1400 goes out @ 2700 ish then the turbo takes over .
Vane tips burn off with the KAD series on the exhaust side eventually.
But this sounds like an air leak ,which Jon has found .
Other than that fouled sterngear which is excluded due recent annual.
There’s also some sort of flap valve on top which sticks .
Been nearly 4 years since I got out of KAD s though so could be more ?

Clutch on the supercharger if that goes ,( more like when :)) it’s not clear from the op what’s working .

As an update - I cleaned the 2 fuses under the black box with the reset buttons.
And took her out once in a safe area I opened the throttle there was a pop sound then the boat took off and flew past 2500rpm and ended up at 3200 and stayed there and went up to 3300rpm at one point.
So it would appear to be in good order
many thanks for the advice
Jon

Good to hear that the compressor now appears to co-operate.

I have to say the max revs seem a bit low. It should go up to 3600 at least.

The engine did seem to want to go more but I had to be careful as I am in a river with other users.
That said I am also thinking of the wear and tear already on the turbo.
But I am quite happy as this was the fastest it has been in 2 years of my ownership
