Hi,
My first post to the forum but I've been reading lots on here and now have a few questions... It would be great to get some input on-please!
For some background, I am exploring the possibility of owning a boat and have had a long-held ambition to have something along the lines of a Fairline Targa 38 / 40. Usage will be pretty simple: day-tripping and overnighting with occasional long weekends spent on it. Majority of the time it will just be me and my wife using the boat but I also expect to occasionally have friends/couples join us for days out, evenings and some overnight stays.
I am a UK citizen but resident in Spain (Lanzarote) and here are the questions which are hurting my head at the moment:
Appreciate any help you can provide.

I am a UK citizen but resident in Spain (Lanzarote) and here are the questions which are hurting my head at the moment:
- As a Spanish resident, I am trying to understand the tax payable on the purchase. From what I have read, it looks like that a lista 7 registered boat (private) to my use (also private) would have the least amount of tax payable (4%).
Does this mean I am better off looking at boats that are already lista 7 registered in Spain? Or, if the boat has had VAT paid and isn't registered in Spain, is it the same level of tax?!
I am really looking to make sure I am clear on costs on top of the purchase price and where I should be looking for a boat...
- Does the flag of the boat have bearing on the question above? I am guessing as a resident and the boat being permanently moored in Spain it would require a Spanish flag?
- Moorings - the local Marina, Marina Rubicon Playa Blanca, which would be my preferred location, list berths in categories of LOA up to 11m / 12m / 13m etc. Would a Targa 40 (listed as 13.1m) require a 14m berth or is there a bit of lee-way and a 13m would be OK?
Appreciate any help you can provide.
