But at race time 05:10 Zana was ahead of Skandia and it looks as if they are both not going full tilt against the fleet because are keeping each other covered. I assume they will both probably run Grundig (current race LH leader) down because of its short WL length.

Old tub? 'tis the newest tub there, only about 2-3 months old and first race! Am obviously cheering for Zana as is from my home town here.

Which they have both now done VERY quickly. {Edit later: Whoops, technical problems on Grundig meant position was misreported - they still in lead. Also, why is Zana showing 1 knot slower all the time than Skandia but still drawing ahead of Skandia? Some OZ foul play there}

Yes, neck and neck all the way.

The question now remains, without a clearcut superiority of one shown over the other and seeing that as I think neither Skandia nor Zara have raced another super maxi before (Zana certainly hasn't as was her first race), are they both dogs, mediocre performers or fast?

Re:Radio Interview

Full marks to Grant Warrington who praised the skipper and crew of Zana,saying they were a professional world renowned group of sailors....
I reckon both yachts did well,and instilled a lot of interest in the race....

Re:Radio Interview

Agreed, a very interesting race, with them in sight of each other all the way, and a fine perfomance, especially with the much smaller Grundig putting up such a strong showing in the first half or so. Followed them (on the internet!) to Tasman Peninsula last night but then gave up and went to bed - probably just as well!

Well - Wild Thing (Skandia if we must promote the sponsor!) certainly didn't disgrace herself in the races she competed in leading up to the Hobart - so they must be both there or there abouts. Both look a trifle underpowered, so maybe they wont do so well in Pacific/ California or Med races - but who wants to sail in such warm places anyway?
