Just enough tide for the lovely Wootton Creek

I recall a biology teacher who lived overlooking the creek used to keep his fin keel yacht which at the time seemed fairly large in a berth in the creek and it seemed to rise and fall fairly regularly with each tide. This was a few years ago but I wonder if it's still there. I think he used to take CCf cadets out for sail training on it

I have a old pilot book which refers to a dredged pool with pontoon berths at Fishbourne quay boatyard which I suspect is no longer in existence

I had to navigate a First 36.7, draft 2.3m, up to the bridge at the top of the creek and touch the bridge with a boathook off the bow, as a yachtmaster exercise. Was a bit hairy but we made it.

Nice one! These sort of exercises give you confidence.

When I did a Day Skipper course with John Goode's Southern Sailing School we spent a very useful day in Poole Harbour deliberately running aground and getting off again.

What a great idea, many with deeper keels are very wary about exploring creeks. Such exercises would liberate many to be a bit more adventurous and get a lot more out of their sailing. I think the same goes for confidence to use anchors and kedges in all sorts of situations.
