well either deck hand better get to the gym or its an electric one to be bought.

Who needs a gym when you've got a manual windlass!

I'm actually half way through the electric upgrade- I've replaced the Royale with a secondhand Tigres (which sat in a locker for two years... how's that for procrastination). Haven't wired it up yet so still on manual mode, but I'm off to Budget Marine this morning to buy the cables

When I got my previous boat it has a tigrus winlass whthout a motor

The windlass has a worm driven by the motor which drives the chain wheel giving the required reduction retio

I have looked aat making a windlass from a leaver chain come along but it requires a new support frame and a gear reduction the unless you have ways to make then would be quite expensive.
