I checked on the boat today after the bad weather,I found that the batteries were flat again, (Having just changed the main isolator) except this time the outdrive was in the raised position??!! Luckily for me the springers were taught enough to prevent the prop from contacting with the pontoon, so no damage caused, what worries me now is why? what has happened? I didn't have chance/ time to investigate further , I will have to go back tomorrow for further investigation, has anyone any idea as to what may be the problem (apart from water ingress of course)!! I just hope the lift motor isn't knackered!!

arn't boats FUN? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hhmm, if you've got a new isolater did you turn it off while your away? If it was off how did the lift motor lift the drive? If the batts are off then the leccy should be dead. In the lift mech of the drive is in basic terms a worm drive actuating on a slip nut that runs on a threaded rod. Thats the rod that pushes down on the leg to lift it....yeah I know it sounds arse about face. If the slip nut is too tight the motor has to work hard to lift the drive. If its too loose then the lift motor will run bu the drive won't move. If its just right the drive can be moved under fairly strong external forces without damaging the drive. SO The drive lift mech sounldn't be damaged, but as always those are the "famous last words"!

OR someones been on the boat tuned on the juice and lifted the drive....is the prop still there?

OR last time you was there you were well oiled and forgot you lifted the drive....is there any booze left?

in short

I dunno really!

Plenty of booze left /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Batteries were swithched of, prop still in place, However that said the leg could be raised or lowered, so suspect wiring somewhere? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I also found this on my boat - never did find out why, but I now disconnect the battery leads before leaving and the battery is then fine!

I'm gonna take isuue with that. Whats the point of having batt isolator if it doesn't fully isolate the batts. Its then not doing its job. Lets face it if your away from the boat and theres a prob where seawater is getting into it a bilge pump isn't really going to be much help.
All the boats I've had in the past have been set up this way. Never had probs with batts going flat, the current batts on my boat have't been taken out in the last 5 odd years. Nay probs with them yet, fingers crossed!

On julians engine/drive if its using the Volvo loom then the only connections to the batts should ONLY be the battery cables and nowt else. If of course its not and someones changed it then its a different kettle of fish.

Usual terms and conditions apply.

Ah but...

My boat was stopped from sinking by the bilge pump when it sprung a leak from the transom shield in my absence. Had it been wired differently, it would have been bye-bye Coney Island.

Cant account for drive leg mystery?? Also can't account for DIY wiring...of which my boat has plenty...and so do many other boats /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
