Just a thought ... anyone ADDED a Transom Arch ?

Unfortunately when pal tried to bend the poles ... the chrome cracked ... as I expected.

The use of for me is to test the design without mortgaging the wallet ... then if it works - go for stainless

My boat is 25ft - so any additions like this can look strange if not careful.

If your boat is 'only' 25ft - would an off the shelf rib A frame not be made to fit? E-Bay often has a few available and as they are not custom made have a more wallet friendly price... Perhaps worth a look.

I have looked at them ... but its matching the dimensions the problem. Of course its much better looking ...

I considered cutting the feet of and sorting out clamp fittings to fit to rail .... but again its dimensions ...

As regards pricing .... the Chromed gear altogether would cough up about 55 to 60euros total. My mate Petr who owns a Metal Fabrication biz - I need talk with him as he often has scrap leftovers from contracts that he then fashions into my gear at extremely attractive pricing. Usually its cost of the Welder guys time only.

The idea to have for maybe a year - the chromed affair ... learn to live with or hate it !! If successful ..... remove, reconstruct of the boat ... give to Petr - design in the bends etc. needed and have it made in 316 ... he also has Dural as he has Aerospace contracts .... basically he would create a custom affair without the DIY look !!

I used PVC drain pipi when designing mine or you could use PVC conduit for smaller diameters before committing to expensive stainless steel
 
What size are you after?

Osculati seemingly have some (stainless)

Honest ... I am not going to spend 400 quid on it ... plus the shipping is additional to Latvia ... we do not have chandlers all over as in UK or Italy where they come from ...

I can get Petr to make one for a lot less than that and it will be to my boats dimensions ...

Actually I think I already said I would continue to use my X crutch while testing the temporary arch.

Something that I would like to add to the final arch (if fitted) - is a roller for mast to move on when moving from mast mount to pulpit for stowage. At present - its a pain as the X mount conflicts with the crosstrees and needs strong guy to lift mast to guide cross trees past ...
A keel-roller as used on a trailer would be fine.
 
earlier post by another talks about 400 quid for an arch. I responded by saying Latvia is not so well served for items.

I can give an example of the sheer 'lunacy' of things here .....

I need a new bottom strip across front of my Range Rover which has been lost - it covers the front towing hitch. I have just ordered from UK ... OEM is 84 quid + 40 quid shipping .... which includes the mounting clips.
To buy same article in LR Dealer here in Latvia : 257 Euros and that comes WITHOUT the mounting clips - a further 9 euros each !! Plus another 10 euros delivery to my house.

Admittedly I will have 21% Customs added ... but still substantially less than the robber Latvian dealership ...
 
I made this using 25mm 316 tube, its attached to the pushpit with standard bimini connectors from Baseline Marine. the front legs are bolted into rivinuts inserted into the pushpit uprights. It would take my weight but not sure about an overhanging mast sitting on it

That looks really smart! How did you bend the tubes? Did you weld the supports yourself?
 
When I started building it asked for information on the forum, there is a lot of good stuff on here. The TIG welding was the difficult bit as I hadn't had much practice. I should have just tacked the frame and taken it to a pro.

I like it ... similar to what I have in mind ... straight legs but a little lower as my boat is only 25ft ... so needs to be lowish ..

Mast would be fine with a central temp support ..

Our approach after buying a scruffy ex rib frame from a boatyard on the IOW. Cut the feet off and then bought a pullpit too, so I had the curved bits to join the frame to the stern. Joined to yacht pushpit with Plastimo fittings and added extra support bars so it isn't wobbly. Went for 19mm for the supports, joined with 25mm and 19mm fittings, not cheap mind and those that have grub screws need either through drilling and bolting or drilling and tapping for 5mm screws as I have done. Originally fitted 150w of solar, then 300w, now 600w of solar.
