Dunnno about the Icom but it gets good reviews. My own cheap Simrad (99 squids) runs out of battery power after three hours on receive - making it less than useful for the rest of the day.

Think there was a group test in one of the mags a while ago - seem to rememeber the outcome was that most of them had similar performance - but longer battery life was deemed 'useful'. AA batt operation should be a great benefit, if you keep them on board!!

Adrian, good value handheld. I bought one at the Boat Show. Good reception and long battery life. You can intercahnge with the supplied nicads with "ordinary" batteries. Go for it!

Magellan TRACKER.....do i need to say more .

Mines has been splashed , dropped socked and even left in my dive bag for weeks on end . and it's a great unit ,

Can be used off the car battery , 4 x AA batteries >, i also use re-chargeables in mine. Batteries last for at least 20 hours .

I was issued one when i was in the forces , and , got one when i came out .

I WOULD NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE.
