If enough of us boaty people stopped buying from a vast quantity of companies, would that get the prices down? We would have to get a list of the more expensive to avoid though.???

Been doing that for years. Amazing what you don't need if you try hard enough. As others have said; Marina skips are often better stocked than swindleries anyway. Never chuck anything away if it can be reused or recycled. Use your tools & your imagination - it's very rewarding.

Not sure it would work.... but it could be worth a try.
Having said that, it would rely on a large number of boaters either buying from only one supplier for a reasonable period, (no mater what the prices are), in order to show the other supplierts our power. Alternatively, the large number would have to postbone all boaty purchases for a reasonable period to show the power. Either of these strategies would be easy for those of us not proposing any boaty purchases in the short term... others might have difficulty.
There is a petrol site knocking about which proposed to get enough people interested in a petrol card which they would then tout to the fuel companies for a discount.
Initially, I kept getting emails telling me that 50,000, then 100,000, now 500,000 people have signed up etc...., now I keep getting emails telling me that, whilst they havent had any success with the card, petrol prices have fallen, and are claiming some credit for this??? They also ask us to be patient as they expect the card to happen in early 2007???
Quite some time ago, I actually suggested that they ask all those who had signed up to use only 1 petrol company for a month, then re-tout the card.... it didnt happen, I dont know why!
I think they now have a site with a core "membership" where they may try to sell other things.. they have had 2 offers on the site, (not many for year or so) ... they also have a sister site which provides property prices where they pay affiliates to help drive people to the site
