Well finally my Beneteau 331 'Jupiter' is finally back in the water, and no leaks from any of the replacement skin fittings, valves or hoses. That was a first for me so I was a little nervous!

When I bought the boat last year I thought she didn't need much doing to her but I got a little bit carried away! So far...

Hull and keel soda blasted and copper coated.
All original pin stripes, graphics and logos removed and replaced
Waterline stripe sanded back to Hull and resprayed.
Hull minor gelcoat repairs, compounded and polish to entire hull and deck.
All new bronze skin fittings, valves and hoses.
Heads re-fitted with all new taps, associated plumbing, lighting, WC serviced and pump overhauled. Custom wall mirror with Laser etched logo fitted (looks great)
Shore Power external socket fitted to transom and mains AC, updated, rewired with galvanic isolator and additional UK CBE sockets fitted in saloon.
Eberspacher heating fitted with outlets to all cabins and heads
All existing lighting replaced and upgraded to LED
New adjustable 12v reading LED spotlights to all cabins
12v LED mood lighting installed to saloon with touch dimmer controls
Main control panel rewired and updated
24" 12V flat screen TV and aerial / amplifier installed
New galley oven fitted
Gas lines replaced
Cockpit pedestal refurbished, existing instruments repositioned to enable a new chartplotter to be fitted
Low level lighting installed in cockpit
Cockpit Engine stop removed and overhauled
Engine cleaned and fully serviced
New 110ah domestic battery, box and cables.
New mainsail, genoa and stakpack
New pedestal cover
New Cockpit cover
New anchor, chain and remote winch controller
New custom bow anchor protection plate.
Anodes replaced
Prop cleaned, polished and anti-fouled

Left to do:-
Produce custom moulding to strengthen heads floor. ( it creaks)
Replace masthead anemometer
Route kicker to cockpit
Replace transom shower unit
Fit table and pedestal to cockpit
Service winches

The plan is to complete within the next week or two.......

It may have been easier to buy a new boat but nowhere near as interesting, or as cost effective. It's been a lot hard work using all my weekends over the last three months but I have really enjoyed doing it. The copper coat and spraying were carried out by Smooth Finish at Titchmarsh and I really can recommend Terry. I know most of this was unnecessary and the purists will of course have their own thoughts. When I bought her she was sound, but tired and neglected and needed some TLC, now she's a 13 year old boat in really top condition that looks and feels like a new one and for less than £55k all in. I now know my boat inside out, I'm happy, and if anyone out there is thinking of doing something similar, assuming you can do the work or are happy to pay the pro's then I say go for it, just make sure you get a good survey first!

Just need to start sailing her now, can't wait!

Having also been involved in refits of several of the boats we have owned, I know just how much work that is. I also know the pride of a job well done and the knowledge of 'knowing the boat' inside out.

One thought from your description. How much effort or time have you out into assessing battery capacity. You've got a lot of electrics on board and whilst I appreciate that you won't have all the lights in all the time, and presumably they are all low consumption LED's they still need power and one 110 Ah battery is pretty minimal. Have you done a power audit for the electrics? What facilities have you got for charging?

I bet she looks smart though!
