Jotun antifouling feedback..

Hi,
it is as far as i know now a Jotun directive, not hse or anything else. Seaqueen was discontinued last year. I have asked my rep to provide me with a definitive explanation for the seaforce situation and post back asap.

Please keep the pressure on Jotun. Our coating of Seaqueen has lasted 3 seasons (!) but now needs re-doing. I'll have 10 litres of Seaforce if you can get them to change their mind...

Thanks
as has been stated it is still available to our EU boating frends.
I have enough for a single coat this year & expect to buy more when abroad

That is correct. I was supplied with Seaforce (Seaqueen is no longer available) on production of my coding cert.

Why is it "not unreasonable"? How does coding impact on H&S issues for anti-fouling? It is a blatant attempt by Jotun to screw £££ from a customer base which they perceive as having more money than sense. Seaforce is a good product, as was Seaqueen, but my perception of the Jotun brand has plummeted following this stunt by their marketing dept.

I was trying to make the point out that 'on the face of it' commercial users who needed a truly reliable product for their livelihood would benefit more than 'amateurs' from using seaqueen, but I did also point out that that argument didn't stand up to more detailed scrutiny!

i think you will find that commercial operations inc. sailing skool & coded vessels can still buy it. sorry havnt read all the posts

I'm also annoyed at Jotun's decision, I've asked a Dutch online retailer for a cost to deliver 5 and 20L tins to the UK, if it's not too bad I'll get some, if it's not cost effective, I'm going to load up my car with 5 years worth of supply when I'm in Holland in the summer!

I used Seaqueen the year before last on the recommendation of numerous posts on this forum and have been very pleased with it. I'd certainly buy more or Seaforce if it was available but otherwise will be switching to on of the International products.
Good luck with sourcing some!

I also have been in contact with a Dutch supplier, he quoted a cost of 50 to 100 Euros for delivery for 20 ltrs I am reluctant to put his name in the 'open forum in case they get nobbled by Jotun. Perhaps we should look at forming a bulk buying as proposed on another thread which would brng down the shipping cost per tin.

I have also used Seaforce force and was very happy with it. Forced to use Mare Nostrum last year and lots of weed - imo its not as good as Tiger or UNO

Please post their reply!

Here is the response I had earlier today:

"It is possible to send, only the shipping costs are crazy expensive unfortunately. We've been getting more questions from others from the UK if we're able to ship them SeaForce/SeaQueen. I will try to find a way to get it cheaper to the UK, cause for just one bucket you need to pay the full pallet price!"

I then replied mentioning this actual thread, they replied:

"Thanks for the link and the interest. We're trying to get a sales point in the UK, but it's not sure if we're able to get it yet. If we do we will let you know!

If you do come to the Netherlands, feel free to drop by!"

You could also ask Jotun Iberia (at Setubal, Portugal) for a quote, I have a 20L drum of Seaforce 30 sitting under my boat now. They have offered to deliver to the Algarve for me and there's a weekly Algarve Freight van to Essex. I checked out the situation here when I picked up the drum a couple of weeks ago and they know nothing about user restrictions.

I too have always used SeaQueen until now. I spoke to Shepherds, the retailer, and they also refused to supply this year. So I will use Hempel. Not my preferred option, but no choice at the moment. Will take my car to Germany later this year, and if I can source some Jotun there will do so.

Have been using Seaforce 30 antifouling for the last 6 years on my Sadler and always impressed with the results. Would be more than happy to continue with same, but now due to Jotun's policy of not supplying this particular product to us 'leisure users' any more, they have successfully done themselves out of a good customer.

I used 2 coats of SeaQueen in 2009 and 2011. It didn't need doing again in 2010 as it was excellent and by far the best AF I've used...easily lasting two years with only slime adhering to the hull. But the boatyard banned me from using it and refused to lift and pressure wash my boat any longer unless I changed AF. As it happens I could no longer buy SeaQueen by then, but their objection was that there was far too much "blue" run off from the SeaQueen. The fine AF spray which got blasted off on pressure washing was apparently covering other nearby boats in a film of blue!!!....even on the 3rd or 4th pressure wash since the previous antifouling.

Since then I've tried Hempel Tiger Extra and Micron Extra 2.....both very disappointing in comparison, at least in the area I keep my boat (Haslar Marina)
