Jongert 19s

Thank you for the suggestion. I will pass that one. I guess they sail better too? One argument for the Jongert is the steel hull, if at one point they want to sail to higher latitudes.
There is a guy with a 48 who does all the big offshore races and does very well so I guess they sail well. See Sailing Florence on YouTube, they just went to Svalbard in a 37. How high does he want to go?

It’s all in the air, they don’t have definite plans.

……but if they buy a 50 year old big Jongert they will immediately have very definitive financial liabilities to fund
I told them. What about mooring? What about the logistics of maintenance? To no avail. Otherwise they are very rational people… I hope the surveyor will tell them and they will listen to him.

The relatively modest price for that Oyster 53 (and even more so the $299k one in the US) surprised me! I'd always thought that recent-ish Oysters were well out of reach but not so - whilst I'm not going back to owning a sailing boat now, if I was I'd be looking at those. Remarkable.

I agree. I have been on a smaller Oyster once and was very impressed.

I sent them the Oyster and they said the boat needs to have a steel hull. I give up
Explain to them that aluminium is the new steel and look at a cigale (or some other vaguely modern design). Failing that please keep us informed of what happens.
I want to know how they are going to fight over that aft cabin.

Haha, yes, that aft cabin. I didn’t want to bring it up. They must have thought about it though. An elephant in the cabin… I sent the Cigale. Beautiful boat and seems to be in great condition. I think it’s out of their budget though and I remember they were concerned about aluminum corrosion.
