Just got around to fixing a broken brass bolt on my Johnson 4B sea water (impeller) pump.

But the beast still leaks. The leak is coming from behing or below the pump.

Inside the impeller housing there is a rubber (?) ring. I hoe this is what is leaking, and that is all that needs replacing.

Anyone had similar reapir/leaks???

I take it you are talking about water leaking from behind the impeller housing. On my engine (Bukh DV20) and most others there are two seals on the pump drive shaft to prevent water leaking into the engine, with a weep hole between them, located on the impeller housing. Water leaking from this hole means that the seal is worn and need replacing. This is an urgent job, as these seals prevent water being forced back into your engine. Remove the pump assembly from the engine housing and this will allow you to withdraw the drive shaft and replace both seals, taking care to position them in the same orientation as the old seals. You would also be well advised to check your engine for water ingress - a grey sludge in your oil is the giveaway. On the Bukh this is immediatly obvious if you remove the rocker cover. Best of luck!

I have had a similar problem. The people at Aquafax, Luton have been very helpful.... lots of advice, time given freely etc.

No connection, just a very satisfied customer.

Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
