Jim Shead boat listing

What is wrong with some of you people? Tim asked for HIS boat details to be removed. He's quite within his rights (free choice) to do that. His requests were ignored by Jim Shead so it was then that he contacted the hosting company, again to ask for HIS boat details to be removed. He never asked for the website to be closed down. Mr Shead brought that about himself from what I have read.

Just because some of you don't mind having your boat details made public does not mean that everyone SHOULD have their boat details made public. The reasons someone may not want their boat details made public may be many and varied, but the reason(s) don't matter and should not have to be explained to others. Why is it that some of you seem unable to accept the principle of free choice and why is it that some of you have resorted to personal attack mode because someone's point of view and wishes differed from yours? From what I have read here some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

His boat details were already public. It's a boat, it floats on the river, with a name and licence attached. One could easily guess the length...stand at any lock and you can watch them all go past.

Same goes for your boat, and your car. seven clicks and I can tell you the make, model, engine, date of registration etc etc, but nothing personal.

You seem as pointless as him...

You can't tell me anything about my car or boat because the details aren't online. If they were then I'd be asking for them to be removed and wouldn't take kindly to my requests being ignored.

You seem as pointless as him...
There you go again. Because my point of view differs from your own you resort to insults.

Of course he is within his rights to make that request, in much the same way as I could ask you to to send me £20.

I have a right to ask. I do not have a right to insist that you comply with that request.

Whilst you and Mr Mountain may not LIKE the details being on-line (and given the details that are there, it is difficult to see what the issue is), that doesn't entitle you or Mr Mountain to have it removed.

As I understand it, Mr Mountain has alleged that the boat listing breaches his copyright. Nothing that was contained on the site breaches the copyright of any boat owner. Mr Mountain has misrepresented the copyright position to induce the host to take action to suit him.

It is also a futile exercise, because the listing will return and will include Mr Mountain's boat. The only thing that will have changed is that his notoriety will ensure that instead of being just one boat in thousands everybody will know which boat is his.

I would like to thank you all for you character assassination, what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Please let me tell you the details. Firstly I have over the last few years asked Mr Shead on a number of occasions to remove the details of my boat (private property) from his web site and he originally did so but soon after put the details back. I understand that some people might enjoy his listing but he should respect peoples privacy and remove individual details if asked.
During January this year I e-mailed Mr Shead three times asking for details to be removed but he did not bother to reply.

I then contacted his hosting company and discussed the mater with them and they then asked Mr Shead to remove ONLY my details. He did not bother to reply to them so they shut his site down. He then decided to make contact with them and was told his site would be reinstated if he removed my boat details. Mr Shead decided to remove the complete boat data base. His words on his site are : "Reluctantly I have withdrawn all my boat listing rather than just removing the two items" I did not ask Mr Shead to remove the complete listing.
The hosting company were VERY upset at Mr Shead's statement on his boat listing page when he attacked them, so they have again shut his site down.

So, he LEGALLY posts information.

You don't like that information being published, so you claim that he has breached your copyright to induce his host to take the information away.

He hasn't broken any law, he hasn't breached your copyright.

If your character has been assasinated, it was rather more in the nature of suicide.

The Jim Shead Boat Listing is a fantastic source of information that allows historical delving along with assistance in buying boats.
In the last couple of years, it has assisted the waterways communities assist the Police, EA and BW trace stolen boats with very little information. A boat name can be swiftly identified and maybe narrowed down to a single boat . A boat number can immediately give us something to look for. Very quickly, large forums can be mobilised and someone somewhere can identify where the boat was/is, or has been seen, or someone will have an up to date photograph.
Perhaps I should request to DVLA that my car be removed from their licenced list.
If they were to grant my request, I would look a reet daft git if it got stolen and no-one could look for it.
Tim seems to be very hot on reporting other boaters transgressions according to the Thames User group meeting notes he is part of, is he planning to also transgress, or is he worried that people he reports might get shirty...........Jim Sheads List doesn't identify him, so why ruin a good resource.

As regards the RUG meeting. The subject of Mr Shead's web site was first raised by an Environment agency member of staff and not me, however, I did then pass comment.
It would be nice if some of you had read both Mr Shead's statement and the RUG details before launching an attack on me. I am more than happy to discuss this matter with anyone and before having another attack on me, why not send me an e-mail with a phone number and I will gladly give you a call.

I wish you all a great 2013 boating season

Best wishes
Tim

Oh dear oh dear!

There you go again. Because my point of view differs from your own you resort to insults.

If you mean 'your car details are not online' then give me the reg or vin number and I'll pm you all the info.

If you're claiming your registration number isn't online, well it may not be, but just like insecure Timmys boat, so what! It's outside where even people with no Internet connection can see it for free!

That's why you're as pointless as insecure Timmy...

Indeed lets hope a new day rids some posters of their abusive nature...Natalie has the axe out this morning over the log in issues so it wont take much to send her over the edge...you have been warned ! (not you Dash300..)

I have to say I am absolutely astonished by the way this thread has developed and also by the extreme views and discourteous comments (some, I have to say, actually quite insulting,) expressed over what, on the face of it, is a matter that needs to be resolved by the interested parties.

It saddens me to see this forum being used in this way and I have considerable sympathy for Richard in trying to exercise responsible moderation.

No doubt I will now also attract similar attacks for speaking my mind but so be it. If necessary I will not engage in this level of worthless argument but simply remove myself.

I am an interested party.

A website that I find to be a useful resource has been removed as a direct result of somebody making a blatantly untrue statement about the copyright status of the material that it contains, in order to induce the site host to remove that content.

I may well become an even more interested party in future, because if Jim Shead doesn't put the information up again, I am ready to do so.
