Xmas coming up!! wifey going to buy me a jigsaw,Anyone bought one recently? Want a good one that will cut wood without the cut going away from a right angle also variable speed for plastics. Many thanks for helping to choose.

WORX WX65JSL from Argos. £49.99 with a three year guarantee. As good a saw as any I've used and not a lightweight toy.

Used it for various timber, up to 6mm steel plate and up to 10mm acrylic. Variable speed, adjustable pendulum action, tool-less blade change. Came in a case with a circle attachment and multiple blades. Used it for 6 months and cannot fault it so far.

The capacities are higher than my use thus far.

had about 10 in my time on the buildings last on I got has lasted me two years don`t buy boschcrap hitachi you will get bearing trouble, best value for money is hilti but the cream of the bunch is festool mmmmmmmm if you want battery one go for the new milwalke lithion my son got one two weeks ago battery still going

I have an old Hitachi with adjustable pendulum action and a couple of cheap non pendulum Bosch and B n D ones.

The difference between the former and the other two is huge, I think best bet is to look on screwfix.com and buy the best deal with the pendulum action.

If you get somthing less well known make sure the replacment blades are easily available

I've used them all: 'Boatbuilder' is spot on with his real advice as above. There is no harder or more abusing environment than a boatyard!

All very commendable replies but the one thing nearly everyone does wrong is to try cutting everything with the same blade.
This is where i get a bit out of my depth. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
But my business is selling circular saws for all sorts of applications including high tec and high spec. so the theory still applies

Each different material, thickness and coating needs a different blade with different numbers and type of teeth.

But he ho i love it when someone uses the wrong blade and screw its up

I get to sell some more /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS: I can find the info for what blade for what material etc etc.... if you really really really want it.
