We need more info to then be able to see what and who is cause etc. Just a picture of the slipway and few words ? Not enough.

do we? or could we just politely show our respects by keeping our noses out, letting the family and their friends get on with grieving and leave it for the Police/MCA/MAIB to deal with investigating the cause, pointing fingers if they need pointed and if it is likely to save any future occurrance sharing that information with those who need to know.

Well said. Doesn't do any good speculating and making wild assumptions. Wait until the official verdict. Meanwhile a real tragedy has happened involving the loss of life and devastation of at least one family.

In fact if you read me correctly and my other post - I totally agree with you. I am against the forum verdicts such as seen here by some ... I was saying that we don't know all the facts .......

hi i just read the news on it and enjoyed reading all of your view's many of them very true, i am a jetski owner and i know that they get a bad reputation where ever they are i owned RIBS for the last 15 years and i hated anything to do with jetskis or infact there owner's and i still cringe sometimes when i out with friends who have little of no experience on them. Making course for them wont stop people being idiots on them sad as it is it just seems it was a really tragic accident.

No, you ride it, you're responsible for it.
Well maintained throttles do not tend to stick open. Was the machine properly serviced? Was the rider trained to deal with likely faults? Did he check that the throttle operated properly before aiming at a sprog?
Also why was the rider going so fast so close to shore that he could not steer out to sea.
A tragic accident for sure, but probably preventable.
The wisdom of letting kids play on slipways is also questionable, you see parents around here oblivious to the dangers of reversing trailers, boats being moved by waves etc.
I'm sure we've all done stupid things that could have resulted in a fatal accident had we been unlucky. We have to think about the potential outcomes before playing with our dangerous toys.

I spoke Air Traffic wise to the helimed 5 helicopter on its way back to the hospital in Glasgow on saturday afternoon........its sad now to read this and realise who was aboard....a very sad day indeed.

Most of the jet skis that I see around the clyde are travelling too fast/too close to other vessels/shore - a bit like watching motor bikes zooming around a school playground - with the inevitable consequences.

The jetty in Kilchoan is a very quiet place, used by perhaps one boat every few days. It really is not a busy or very boaty place. It is a very quiet part of the shore in a very quiet village.

I think it very unfair, and very distasteful, to imply any blame on the parents or carers of this child who have just suffered such a devastating loss.

I understand that the driver/rider of the jetski was a person very close to the bereaved family.

'Stuck throttle' is the general excuse for half the motor racing accidents in the country ... nobody's ever willing to admit they just might have got it wrong! ... I'm not saying this is the case here but ...............................

Fair comment, I apologise for any offence.
My remarks were meant more in the spirit of thinking about dangerous situations and preventing the preventable.
As a motorcyclist one might draw parallels between me and the jetskier. I've never hurt anyone but the risk is there. Possibly true of very many of us with powerful toys at some point.

If it was not for the discussion on here, the event would have passed me by, so there is some value in people discussing it, if we hope to learn from other people's appalling misfortune. When there is not much information, people digress into similar incidents and near misses. An out of control sailing boat or other vessel could have the same outcome and we need to be aware of that.
