I will never forget the troubles in UK with Jet Ski's ... in particular when my boat was side-swiped by one outside Cowes ..... water flying over into cabin .. wife near thrown into the water and driver laughing his head of as he went and did same to another. (He was apprehended at mainland slip By Police after a number of us called CG).
Previous boat on mooring at Tudor Club - son and I lowering mast - two Jet Ski's come thundering through the moorings swerving in and out of the line of boats ... son and I desperately holding onto the mast to stop it falling to side and damaging foot / step.
Here on the river many people this time of year swim ... have small jettys etc. Most of the year - we have small boats out there with people fishing.
Town Council recognised need and set up a Public Area for launching and recovering small boats. They also marked a 'safe zone' for swimmers in the most frequented area.
Outside of that zone - the river has a general 8kt limit and advises not to cause incidents for fisherman and residents use of.
Now a number times my Wife and others have had to stop swimming from our bank due to the idiot downriver of us who now has a son with a Jet Ski ... He is dangerous ... lets guests use it who have no idea of what they can do ... They cut close to our bank ... swerve creating massive waves .....
I'm not a Killjoy - but its such that it may be time to talk to Town Council and River Authorities to enable similar rules as UK / EU has to make safe.
