I been searching Google for some Blogs or video footage of this years jester but not found any, does anyone know of some ?

There are a fair amount of information from Tony Head in the sitreps issued by Ewan. If you are not familiar with these, they are found on the yahoo Jester group. I do not know of any others.

I was under the impression that the Yahoo group was a closed shop.

A lot of people take an interest in the Jester challenge who aren't able to actually participate, but are interested in the debates and details surrounding it.

Is it my imagination that activity on this particular forum has dwindled of late?

Thanks, i may end up watching yours again then whilst we wait !

Ha ha, I think I had a walk in the park compared to this years weather.
I'm planning on the 2014 JC and have to "Ocean ize" my little Hurley 22. I was thinking of videoing from the beginning prep-work through to Newport (hopefully), should be a laugh !

Babylon - I cannot remember what the conditions are for acceptance to the Yahoo group. Perhaps an email to Ewan would clarify for anyone particularly keen. For prospective Jesterites the sitreps are of interest, but as a forum I found this one more useful as so many topics are discussed.

There is a bit of a lack of a blog from competitors, and I wished that there were more when planning for it last year. The exception is Malcolm, and I thank him for putting the effort into doing what he did – it was inspiration for the likes of me who had never been deep sea before.

I feel unqualified to write up my Jester experience on here as I pegged out somewhere off Portugal. That said I agree that it would be most interesting to hear the stories of all the other competitors, particularly the events that lead to the boats that retired.

Not sure where you are based but a lot of this sort of thing gets discussed at the east coast meetings which tend to be held quarterly.

Simple souls simple sailing.

Information on JC Challenge

Broadly speaking, the JC is sailed under the Blondie Hasler philosophy. There is no race. We are individual sailors who take responsibility for ourselves. There is no organisation and there are no organisers.

I was a non starter for the JC10 and will be throwing my hat in the ring again for JC 14. The YBW blog is probably the best source of information. The Yahoo forum is not very informative, but a better place to contact other participants. However, Ewen and Eric have done a great job of the Sitreps and Satellite tracking through Yahoo.

But yes, you are right. It is eerily quiet from the JCers!

One reason, I suspect, is that internet forums can be pretty abusive.

Packet Rat is not my real name.

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jesterchallenge/

and ask to join the Jester Challenge Yahoo Group. As soon as one of the moderators is online they will accept you. So far we have never knocked back a soul for any reason. Our philosophy is that we will kick abusers off rather than stop people joining.

A little bit of information about who you are and if appropriate where and what you sail is appreciated but not mandatory.
