Hi, I have traditional Whittal Davits on the back of a Turbo 36. One has jamed ie the handle turns nearly one full circle either way but will not allow and further movement. It feels lick a catch is stopping it turning further
I am hoping someone has experienced something similar and can advise. Many thanks.

Hi. Had this once before on the same Davits on the princess of the same era. Inside there is plastic guide wheels that can jam…but also likely is around the winch barrel itself having a rope jam in it. Have you tried manually grabbing one side of the rope and pulling downward to undo ? Sounds like you have a jam in the rope winding itself perhaps. Have someone put the ratchet lever in neutral at the handle end…and you pulling down on the rope. Check if the plastic guide wheel is keeping the rope on track too. You can see in and under a little from the outside.
After this, we ended up just putting new ropes in ours. New plastic wheels too, after finding them out of shape. Not a difficult thing to do at all. Easier with 2 people for sure.
In the meantime, have a try at the above and if you need to, take the end cover off the arm at the handle end…have a look at the winding barrel/capstan. See if there is a jam.
