Jam Cleat attached to a line ?

Are you assuming that both lines are held tight at all times? On smaller boats, particularly when beating, I don't feel this is necessary. I bring the traveller to the centre before tacking and can then control the power by using just the windward adjuster. I don't race the yacht so on light days, when taking the traveller to windward might be useful, I use the engine.

Don't overlook the advantage of keeping the free ends away from the traveller. Things like that have a habit of catching at the most inopportune moments.
 
Yes I did ... cause I can see the shackle wandering at times .. as wind gusts / drops off .. etc.

I did in an earlier post mention having a single cleated line that you could clip either side required ...

Like most things - each comes up with own solution .. I have the locking discs .. others have lines etc.
