Not even 2yrs old, and it is refusing to pump water in. I have never stripped one of these down (the time has now come - joy !!!) but am not sure if the problem I have is a simple fix, or needs a service kit or something else. It seems to pump out just fine. Have checked seacocks open and working ok.

Any ideas anyone ?

Air leak on the inlet pipe somewhere. There's a little anti-siphon device on mine that popped out some years ago. Mind you it wasn't part of the sea toilet so probably didn't come with the jabsco kit. The inlet pipe has a high loop and the device was at the highest point. It's gotta be worth checking.

Hi Alan

I'd start by taking the top of the pump off and making sure that the rubber flap valve is seating properly (and that the metal weight is attached). If it isn't sealing due to a bit a grit or limescale then that is enough to stop it drawing up water.

I don't think it will anything at the bottom of the pump which is more concerned with pumping out and stopping water in the outlet from getting back into the bowl.

Sometimes when heeled over in a blow the water gets drawn out of the inlet pipe so that it takes half a dozen vigorous pumps to refill the inlet and resume business as usual. If it's only 2 years old then it can't be much. Mind you it's had to cope with you /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go with the weighted flap under the top of the pump. When left right through first winter in pump out position the flap became permanently bent and despite the brass weight did not then sit down flat and give a seal.We had to replace it

There is a service kit that doesn't cost too much with all the rubber flappy things and seals (just make sure you know which model your toilet it, because the kits all look the same!). They do get bunged up with limescale quite quickly. It is quite easy to replace all that lot - it took me about 15 minutes last weekend on ours. It won't help if the problem is the syphon valve in the input pipe, so check that first. It's not as bad a job as you expect!

Thanks to all, shall check the inlet and lift the top off the pump next time Im down.

Rog, will drop the seal off at the same time - should be in next 2-3weeks. let me know if you need it quicker ?

Common problem with Jabscos - easy solution.

If you leave the wet/dry lever in the dry position for any length of time, it gets stuck that way as the rubber is bent and it takes on a bent shape.

Usually just leaving the lever in the wet position for half a day allows it to bend back on its own. If not, replace it, and don't leave the lever in the dry position after use.

Before doing anything drastic, disconnect the water inlet pipe at the toilet end (don't forget to close the seacock first) and rod through to check whether it is blocked. After two years the combination of salt water and dead organisms can result in total blockage.

No rush. I've got some spare Jabsco bits on the boat so ring me if you get it to pieces and need some bits - I'll tell you where they are.

I've found that if I've been out sailing and the inlet pipe lifts out of the sea it can get an airlock of sorts that only fast / furious pumping will overcome...

good luck...

Hey All

Old thread alert!

I had the same problem… took the top gasket off… bl**dy fish about 3 inches long! I think it may have even survived when returned to the sea…

Glad I didn’t leave it till our next visit!

Definitely the most likely cause. We found this out because the inlet seacock is almost unreachable and we were in the habit of leaving it open and the Jabsco in the wet position to prevent syphoning. I have fitted an anti-syphon loop now and leave the unit in the dry position.

I have twice had the problem of a small fish in the inlet hose. Just remove hose from spiggot on heads and blow the fish out.
