Aye, Whirlaway is absolutely gorgeous.
My pal Frank owned her for a number of years, and sailed her out to the Caribbean in about 1991, where she was a regular participant in Antigua Classics and Bequia Easter Regattas, and I think she collected a fair amount of silverware for her racing successes.
Frank has owned a very diverse range of boats and yachts over the years, but I am sure that Whirlaway was his favourite.
She used to have a very distinctive black anodised mast in those days - here is a photo of her from (I think) one of the Antigua Classics races in the early 90's -
She just stops you in your tracks when you see her, you just have to gawp.
I was actually present at her launch as a youth, mainly for the free champagne to be honest. Us boat groupy kids used to hang around and the yards and hope to get a ride as crew occasionally. Never got a go on her though.
