Spending the summer cruising with the other half and two boys. I am sick of being ripped off when trying to get clothes washed. The last load cost 25 euro! Can anyone recomend an automatic washing machine for the boat. I would like one of the nice euronova machines on Mail Speed Marine but they are really pricy. You can get the same one on German e-bay for half the price but the guy on the other end of the phone won't speak english and I have none of the lingo. Not into those bucket jobbies that the caravaners use, with four of us the washing would just be too time consuming. We are sailers so the power usage would have to be low too, husband doesn't want me running the gen to much (might piss off the neighbours!)

Lots of info on the forum.
In the meantime try 'Candy' 3.5 kg. They aren't cheap but you'll make up the difference in a few months.
A full wash programme @50C last appx 1hr 25mins and uses appx 37ltrs (8.5 galls)
Quick wash @ 40C 35/40min & 24ltrs (5.5galls)
We have a 2kw pure sine wave inverter (battery bank 500Ah on 24v) with 120w of solar panels. The system copes well but we run either the engine or generator for 10 mins during the heating cycle, that really draws down the batteries!) Either that or just use machine when you put into port. At least then there's no worry about the water situation either.

I can thoroughly recommend the euronova, so perhaps the best way is to find an acquaintance that speaks German.

Hallberg Rassy have something similar but they are very pricey.

Zanussi had a small one when we were looking, but they told me that using it on a boat would invalidate the warranty.

Thanks for all the info guys, looks like I will be looking for a German speaking mate then. I like the look of the Candy 3.5kg but wonder if it's insides would be up to all the shaking around and dampness that comes with the yachting life! I don't mind spending a bit of money for the right machine, just can't justify shelling out the bones of 500 euro extra for what is the very same machine for sale in a different country. Whether I buy in Germany or the UK I will still be coughing up for shipping to the very soggy "Emerald Isle" I am still questioning the sanity of cruising Ireland this summer and keep suggesting to the beloved that we just turn south, 4 days and we would be in Spain!!!

The Candy has been in constant use for 8 yrs with just a replacement capacitor. So it is hardy enough imo.

Buy yourself a bulk juice barrel from anywhere where food-processing takes place - the ones I have are 21" high and about 12" diameter. Wide diameter sealed waterproof lid.

Simply fill 'em up and tie 'em to the pulpit when at anchor - let the waves do the work, not 'lectricity.

When not functioning as a washing machine, they make great dry boxes for storing shore clothes or anything else you need to keep absolutely dry.

Thanks Electrosys but I think I'll pass on that one. With four of us generating dirty washing I would be spending all my time rinsing and wringing out clothes! Afraid it has to be the lecy option for us.
White Lady, I have sent you a PM, I would be very interested in your machine if you were looking to sell.
