I\'ve got to sell my boat

I bought a Sabre 27 last year, intending to do her up. Sadly, my circumstances have changed so much, I dont think I can do anything but sell her. This sounds naive, as obviously I'm talking about it here - but where can I advertise free or cheaply, yet reach a wide audience?

All your past suggestions have been very helpful - such a shame to ask for help now.

Thanks

Suse

Ever thought of selling it on ebay, you wont get the best price, but it is quick.

Good luck

Hi Suse

Try boatsandoutboards.co.uk. I didn't pay anything for my dinghy to be advertised on there and it was sold within a week and a half.

Good luck!!

Re: I\'ve got to sell my boat

I would use boatandoutboards if I was in your position...I would not use Ebay. How old is the boat...what keel(s)...what engine and how old.....good points/bad points..and finally...how much will you ask for it??? Paul

Re: I\'ve got to sell my boat

there are several Internet sites - Apollo duck - Boats and Yachts for sale - Boats and outboards for sale - and others - free of charge and work well - The magazine Boats and Yachts publishes monthly and is only read really by people wanting to buy - no articles - If you put a free ad on their Internet site they will come back and offer you 2 months of Advertising with a photo and full description of your boat with contact phone numbers - email etc for £65! Brilliant value.

I have just sold my boat using exactly the above tools - Had a massive response and am going to have to disappoint a lot of people -

Re: I\'ve got to sell my boat

Shame Suse..have you looked at making it affordable by getting cheaper moorings etc ?? If not I have trawled most of the East Coast and Thames/Medway brokers while buying and selling and found Clarke and Carter at Burnham the most helpful and effective. Talk to them...Guy or Tony. They sold my Sigma and got me a fair price and then sold a friends wooden Stella too. Boats on e-bay go for next to nothing..I have friends who picked up a bargain there and I am sure you don't want to sell your Sabre for a giveaway price..

I've spent £1000 on the electrics. Hull, engine and rigging sound. Plumbing replaced, gas overhauled. Needs new headlining and upholstery. New sink (to be installed, plumbing ready) and worktop. £8000 - they fetch around £12000 done up.

I'm so sorry Suzy! It must be horrible. I can feel for you as I think I might not be too far behind you! (same sort of thing, unexpected change in family circumstances).

Hope you get over it soon and the boat finds a "good home"!

Suze
I am very sorry to read that you must sell your boat. I think the Sabre 27 is a very attractive yacht but sadly it's way out of my price bracket.

It's just a thought but have you considered posting an ad on the Sabre27 owner's association website?:
http://www.sabre27.org.uk

or post a message on their bulletin board
http://www.sabre27.org.uk/mariner/bbs/list.asp?fid=32&page=2

One person on there is considering buying a Sabre27 (bilge keel) early this year. Where there's one there may be others.

I very much hope that circumstances will change for the better and you will be able to keep yours.

Best wishes
