I've bought a new boat

Something I meant to ask about, it may need a seperate thread but I will try it on here frst:

The propellors on the boat are special high tech jobbies that are supposed to reduce fuel consumption by 50% and add 6 knots to the top speed. Ok I lied about the exact specs but presumably they do something to the greater good.

Any ideas ?

Henry :)

edited to say I'm almost expecting to see these on the F1 cars at Shanghai

Never seen or heard of those strips, are they 2 different materials, the blade to the right seems to have a longer orange section. Are they inserts? Presumably not stuck on. What are they made of?

My guess would be the same as Deleted User, that its to allow fine tuning of the props during intial sea trials due to variations in build weight, or if extra weight is added later. Maybe the orange and white inserts are marginally different thicknesses (the orange seems to sit slightly proud of the white).

Interceptor

VEEM has taken its ‘Splash and Forget’™ technology to the next level allowing every boat to be launched with the correct propeller every time. Imagine being able to design and build a new model of boat and have it hit the right engine revs and load without the need to change or modify the propellers. You can now retain all the benefits of using VEEM’s class leading CNC propeller designs regardless of final boat configuration.
The Interceptor Propeller™ technology also means that you can use all of the engine power that you paid for regardless of boat weight or operating environment. Now you can fish in cold and hot climates using the same propeller by simply changing the Interceptor strips; a bit like summer and winter tyres. Adding a tower to a boat is no longer a trigger to fit new or modified propellers.
The VEEM Interceptor Propeller™ system eliminates the many thousands of dollars wasted each time a boat needs to be lifted to have its propellers changed or modified.
The cost saving of this new system doesn’t end there either. Fuel consumption and the ‘Carbon Footprint’ of every boat can be minimized by ensuring the engines are operating exactly where they were designed to operate over the entire life of the boat.

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

The inserts are a rubber type material, definitely not to balance the props. I'm not entirely sure I agree with the prop trimming or altering idea either. I would have thought that Princess would simply select the right props and be done with it.

I'm wondering if it isn't a bit like the Gurney flap on a race car spoiler. I've quickly snapped the back end of my GT3 race car spoilers and you can (hopefully) see the angled trailing edge of the rear sppoilers. The 996 is in aluminium, the 997 in carbon.

The idea is to make the spoiler more effective and efficient. I wonder if these work in the same way on the propellors?

Hope you can make out the photos.

as above, does sound and look like the veem system Henry

Yes, it certainly looks like that's what they are then. There will be 2 different strips butted up to each other. You can see the entry flanges near the hub. Getting a bit excited now, can't wait to see how the old girl performs with or without my strips.

Because of the charter work I'm not sure we can retain the Nine Eleven Virgin name for fear of it putting off potential customers who can't write their dates properly and associate it with September 11th rather than our Porsche origins. Scratching my head a bit as for the past 15 years boats have always been Nine Eleven Virgin.

U think you will find henryf that princess used to fit the 'best prop' on paper on initial launch, then sea trial the craft. Next time out a set of props was fitted either up or down in pitch and compare. When the boat left the factory the correct prop was fitted.

I have noticed a few Princess's with this type of prop which clearly negated the need for multiple props as the inserts can be changed/ adjusted without the need for multiple sets of props for each model / hull made.

Porker Virgin? That should get the punters rolling in:D

Thank goodness we aren't offering any bareback, sorry bareboat charters otherwise the innuendos would come thick and fast ;)

We are pondering as I type.

Henry :)
