It\'s chucking it down in Kirkwall . . .

Hope you are enjoying a better Summer down South.

It has rained every day since we arrived in Stromness, with periods of drizzle in between. Fascinating place though, every island is different. Pub night on Papa Westray was a highlight, as was going down into the neolithic burial chamber on Holm of Papay.

YBW access is currently reduced to the odd internet cafe while we cruise the Orkneys. Have started a blog but upload opportunities are limited - hope to put more up by the end of the week.

Glad to hear you've made it as far as the Orkneys. Had started to become a wee bit concerned when the blog entries dried up at Day 3. Hope the weather dries up too but summer in the Northern Isles...

beats me why anyone actually lives up there - oops, I mean stays up there.

I take my hat off to you for your endurance and stoic acceptance of such a challenging enviroment

But its a different QUALITY of rain in the Isles-And fewer midges ! I hope you are there for all the burial chambers ,stone circles and cheap beer ! Seem to remember last year being hussled out of Kirkwall's Indian Restaurant as 10 oclock approached ! Pretty good sea food too (you knew that ).

Re: Kirkwall, Orion21, blog etc

Jut been given a mini-tour of Kirkwall and surroundings by Geordie (orion21) who also very kindly took me to get gas and diesel. Had a look at his boat as well - a very nice Trapper 300.

Blog is now (almost) up to date - as far as reaching here anyway - see it HERE

Probably off to Shapinsay tomorrow - a terrifying death defying trip of some three miles . . . then Stronsay and Sanday, maybe North Ronaldsay and back to Pierrowall for the Westray Regatta next weekend.

Watch this space . . .
