Itchenor.....nostalgia

Amazing thing, I reckon I've located the 'Ugly Duckling'.

On Googlemaps, about 200m north of the jetty at West Thorney, if you drag the little yellow 'streetview' figure over, there are several blue dots, the locations attributed to photographs shown. One of them is entitled 'Prinsted Barge'.

I'm 95% sure it's the old Ugly Duckling chain-layer, which was moored about a quarter-mile north of the Burnes Boatyard buoy at Bosham, in the 1980s.

If I look closely enough, maybe I'll find my old Topper at Seaview, too...

In the aerial views it appears much closer to the slipway than the blue dot suggests. http://g.co/maps/ste44
Whether or not it is Ugly Duckling I dont know but I am pretty sure it is the moorings barge for what used to be TISC.

Lt. Cmdr Hand was the "mad sailing instructor" at Itchenor. .... "Without fear of capsize"

Wow! - I was one of his customers! - My mum packed me off in '75 to have lessons with him. Interesting character. IN '76 my Dad built me a Mirror dinghy, and I went back to him with it in '77. There were a couple of brothers who sailed in the harbour who were really good sailors, that he'd "taught." - and one of them taught me to use my new spinnaker. - Wish I could remember their names...
Great memories, even if he was a bit mad!

We used to race ( or rather trundle around behind ) the Yeoman brothers at CYC's ' Snowflake ' winter series - it was open to non members - they were good enough to have sponsorship - this was around 1976 to 80, at one point they had a Javelin dinghy if you remember those.

This could be... right timing .... any idea on first names?
