Hello out there,

I own an Itchen Ferry 25. I want to get in contact with other Itchen Ferry owners. Are there still some left out there?

please contact me.

kind regards Hennie

I saw a gaff-rigged one at Yogaff at the end of May so unless it was you that is at least one! The hull (if you didn't know) is the same as the Tamarisk 24 gaff cutter and that was a stretched version (they gave the transom a bit of a counter) of the Tamarisk 22 (my last boat). The Tam 22 was actually built from the lines taken off a genuine Itchen Ferry, Nellie, which was restored a few years ago and so was probably the most, in looks, like an Itchen Ferry conversion.
I think there were also some 22' bermudian Itchen Ferrys.

I think it is a shame that they gave the Itchen Ferry name to the bermudian version; it should either have been the other way around (actually I think different people built the boats, I can't just remember the story) or better still neither should have had the name, leaving it to the hard working Solent fishing boats of the village of Itchen Ferry and the local area.

For sure it wasn't me at Yogaff at the end of May. I wished it was me because my Itchen Ferry is a bermudian one but I also like the gaff-rigged one much more. On the other hand on the small waters I sail on a bermudian is easier single hand to sail with. I googled up the Tamarisk 24. Its hull indeed lookes like a twin to the one of my Itchen Ferry 25. Thank you for this info.
regards Hennie

I have an Itchen Ferry 22. This is bermudan sloop rigged (I think all the 22 footers were but might be wrong). As far as I know, the boat is virtually identical to the 25 except it doesn't have the bowsprit, and I have been told you can buy them as add-ons to virtually convert a 22 to a 25. Anyway, also interested in any kind of general discussion group dedicated to Itchen Ferries.

Itchen Ferry 22 vs 25

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry to disappoint you, the 22 feet version of the Itchen Ferry is shorter because of hull length and not because of not having a bow sprit. The total length of mine including the bow sprit is about 28 foot. Some yacht brokers use the bow sprit length in order to sell a 25 feet version of the Itchen Ferry. The difference between the 22 and the 25 lays in the extra locker behind the cockpit. The stem of the 25 is also less broad then the stem of the 22. If you give me your e-mail address I can send you the origin folder of the Itchen Ferry 25.

regards Hen

There's one based at Paynes boat yard, Prinsted. At least I think its still there.

Called Scratchen. Waiting to be lifted out 18/10/2008.

My old dad built one from a hull- traditional gaff cutter in appearance. I didn't know that it was the same hull as a Tamarisk. She was a lovely boat, called sabrina (don't ask) and was in Brightlingsea in his ownership but he sold it to someone in Wivenhoe. It would be good to have news of her.
