Hello,
what's the difference between the latest Itama 40 vs the 45 (not the 45s)?
Is the only difference the lenght of the platform?
Sorry if that appears a stupid question....

Please excuse Porto's delay in answering. He will be all over your question like a rash just as soon as he's released from day care. I'm not particularly knowledgeable despite Porto's best efforts to educate us, but I think he might have said one was a fraud and the other the real deal.

He's probably been composing his reply since 11:36. Beware for a long one!

At least its a topic he has some knowledge of :).

Just picked up on this .

“Power is open “ the Itama strap line .Differences are HP and few minor cosmetic internal tweaks

40 has MAN 450s with port hole s n the hull .
45 has Cummins QSB 480 s + modern bonded windows in the hull
45 S newer has Cummins 550s
The 2020modal has opening front pantograph door to the bow .

All have concealed Passerelle in the bathing platform .

Hulls are identical the 22 degree dead-rise.

William of PYB will know a bit more .

I think they were all a rework of the Amarti 38 ( measured without bathing platform ) and reworked .
There are an increasing number of 38 s refurbed / modernised with CAT 375 / 425 , 3208s .

Open means no Med green house effect and cool running .The screen like a car provides wind screen protection and they are dry boats running .This partly because you do not need to back off and slow down ( for comparable size boats ) in a chop and partly the mild Carolina bow flare .

Thanks Porto for your answer.
The reason of the question is to try to justify the 100k difference in cost between a 2006 40 vs a 2013 45, exactly like the ones you mentioned.
I understand it is mainly a question of age. No major improvements, except the engines.
Are the Cummings 480 preferable over Man 450?

Not really they just wanted to stay in the rat race of power .Bearing in mind it’s the same hull .
The extra 100 K at this age does not justify the extra 30 Hp each .
Huge torque low down mean even when fouled they get up on the plane .
MAN power.

The trad port holes of the 40 will be less of a sword of Damocles going forwards over bonded glass maintenance wise and generally one less thing to worry about when on tour in other marinas of if you have a dork of neighbour who cannot park a boat pressing up against them .Or a daft yard that poorly supports the hull .

Additionally there are at least 4 marine MAN agents on the Cote d Azur .
The anodic protection for MAN is one huge transom anode only .You will see it every time reassuringly every time you snorkel .

I think the QSB s is littered with hidden and expensive pencil anodes .

Impellers on MANs are 400 hrs min ( unlike VP Bruce ;) ) .Mine are 5 yrs old and have done 400 hrs so despite working well I am volunteering replacement this season .The water pump is gear driven .
Cummins at the time with the QSB just carried on development, MAN I think discontinued in the marine leisure the baby ( 6.7 L ) of the range . There higher price meant only a few builders used them .VP do the 7.4 L 480 hp with the infamous EDC issues for a fraction of the then baby MAN price .
I think my 13 L are the babies now up to 900 ? Ish ?

The ECUs are dry boards inside theses remote black boxes mounted somewhere safe in the ER .
When you open the water proof box it’s just a rack of boards like a boxed computer, un clip and un plug etc .

MAN's D 0836 LE 401

Just one alternator belt .
As said the anodic system is such there are no dissimilar metals so the heat exchangers do not corrode or fizz away .
Cummins do suffer from HE corrosion. Wether that’s poor differed pencil anode maintenance......probably or just poor design the old dissimilar metal thing who knows .

Any how it’s all about informed choice at the end of the day .

5 years of MAN ownership ( 2002 ) 2876 le 401 700 s has only been oil + filters .As said I am pushing the boat out this year = new impellers.

The most important is that the 45 has sloop stern and and because of this the shear line sloops a bit downward at the back, deviating a bit from the original straight as horizon Itama shear line.
Also again cause of the extra weight coming from the extended sloop stern, boat is about - 1 knot slower, if both a Forty and 45 fitted with Cummins.
Late Forty models are also fitted with Cummins 480hp which are preferable to Man especially since the 1000 hour interval in these is less costly and if I remember well does not have valve clearance, that is at 2000 or 3000 hours on the Cummins 480hp.
Some early 45s seemed to have some few Qaulity issues, most are some Engine Room fittings being of discussable quality and some of the plumping creating some problems, mostly the shower sump.
