It was soooo busy at the Boat Show today.

Was Concerto one of the Westerly Sea School yachts? I think I did a course on Nocturne which was one of their boats.
Not to my knowledge. That is from the daughter of the original owner and a conversation with someone who used to maintain the Westerly Sailing School boats. The shool boats all had musical names.

That is an interesting observation, but perhaps not quite fair. Your Moody dates from the tail end of production when design and construction had moved on to compete with the growing French and German competition. Things like more internal mouldings, better and more durable finishes, better systems and sail handling gear etc set them apart from boats built 10-25 years earlier - plus of course less time for things to go wrong.

Most of the popular Westerlys were from the 70's and 80's and built in a sort of cottage industry way, even if the factory was a big cottage! Actually the production Moodys from that era were not too different and also provide endless opportunities for refurbishment and upgrading as this example shows forums.ybw.com/index.php?threads/moody-28-resurrection-starting-at-the-deep-end-arrow-aztec.565891/

I know it perhaps was not a fair comparison but having followed Steve Yates struggles with the Westerly I found for him I have always felt a bit guilty, however Westerly prices tend to reflect the work required. I know Arrow and Aztec quite well too have encountered them on the Cally, even assisting a charterer once, They came through the Crinan on their way south in the same locking as a boat I was assisting, they had had a very hard life, were extremely tired, basically equipped and few folk would have taken on the restoration that was carried out, I do not think they are typical examples.
I brought a big late Westerly through the other day, wooden gunwhales, sq. section strips of hardwood needing varnishing everywhere, while our Moody has the minimum of stuff needing care, just two handrails. Internally the stiffening mouldings are clean and strong, large beams with apertures to take pipes, heating ducting, cables etc, someone was thinking about making future care and maintenance easier and less necessary, having had her four years now I am more impressed than when I purchased, she is as easy to keep as our Finngulf was. Adding new heating and extra batteries has been easy.
But Moody were lagging too, a two spreader mast with swept spreaders should not have needed four lowers and they stuck with masthead rigs and big headsails for much too long.

The forum has become a dull place and anchor threads might not save it so a bit of marque banter will do no harm, unless they ban that too?

When I went on Saturday I wanted to say hello Concerto. Every time I came past you were busy, I had to settle for shouting at the lady in the cockpit that I liked your videos LOL.

Spent time with Sven on the Hunter though (next door to you).

Hope the rest of your week goes well.
Saturday was manic and I can only estimate I had between about 1inside Concerto00 and 120 people come on Concerto. By late afternoon there was little waiting time. I am just completeing a short video walking around, over and inside of Conncereto for those who could not visit the show. I was too tired last night to complete it, but I should be uploading it to YouTube tonight. I will be posting a link once live.
