Evening all ...not a boaty question,but I'm sure some bods here can help. I was having problems accessing my broadband ..(AOL) ..the prob was traced to a software corruption,and I had to completely uninstall and reinstall the software.. All works fine now except that I have lost all the items which Ihave bookmarked over the past couple of years. This is a bit of a nuisance as there are tel. nos.,addresses etc which I use from time to time. Is there a way for me to retrieve said items?? Answers in plainspeak please!! Cheers
 
right click on Start, click on Explore, click on C: drive, click on Documents & Settings, click on your name, click on Favourites. If they're not there, click on default user, if they're not there, go buy a pint and try relax while you mourn the loss of your favourite links.

I would suggest burning your computer

Having a completely new phone line installed - no - on second thoughts move house and burn down the one you live in.

And start again with a new supplier and a new computer.

You may think that I do not like AOL - You would be right.

They are by far the worse organisation that I have ever dealt with - bar none.

None of which helps you in the slightest I'm afraid - sorry - but I am completely unable to miss out on a chance of abusing them.

I'm sure someone here will halp with your problem.
 
Hi Stingo....did all you suggested.. seem to have lost the lot! Idea of a pint sounds good. Will just have to rack the brains and try to remember what I had. Thanks for your help.Buy you a beer sometime.

tried restoring your computer to an earlier date??

might be worth a try - all progs - accessories - system tools - can't do any harm.

With the reliability of modern electronics being so high, most peeps don't bother to do backups - so presumably you dont have a backup of your system? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

first the good news - favs and such are saved in a file ending in .pfc - do a search of your hard disk for *.pfc and then import it into your current set-up.
Now the bad news - AOL stores the pfc file within the AOL folders, so if you have re-installed the software over the old installation then there is a good chance that you have over-written it. in future back-up the pfc file regularly.

I have to agree that AOL software is the spawn of santa or somebody. Exorcise your pc before it is too late.
 
For future reference it pays to occasionally export your links to HTML format. This generates a 'web page' with the links. Save it somewhere in case this sort of thing happens again.

In the meantime I'd try the system restore to a day or two ago.
