Issues raised on pre-purchase survey

Here's one for the experts in the Forum.

The survey report is in and one of the issues raised is badly eroded anodes. My question is whether I should ask the Seller to replace before completion, requires drying out on a slip, or do I accept and have the job done at my expense ?

4 anodes as far as I know, prop nut, shaft, hull, and skin fitting. Cost ?

My question would be "When were they last changed?" In comparison with the cost of a boat, they are chicken feed - under £100 total. But I wouldn't want that bill every year!

Anodes well wasted and thus doing their job. These are consumables and its quite late on in the season. Cost down to you just like antifouling.

How badly eroded is "badly eroded", (did he take a photo?), and, if the boat is in the water, how did the surveyor establish how badly eroded the anodes are?

If there are 4 on there now, and they are 'just' badly corroded, there may be a case to leave them until the end of the season.
Depends on where you are going to moor the boat.

My mooring is not in electric soup like Burnham Yacht harbour for instance. My 2 25mm shaft anodes do Full Circle for over a season.

Routine maintenance I am afraid, next you will be asking the selling for a free engine service at handover. Mind you in the current economic climate he might well agree.

If the owner can provide part numbers or replacements you might be able to do the job as a cut price lunchtime lift and hold in slings. New anodes and a pressure wash would see you through until a lift out much later in the season, so you can have plenty of late season fun with your new toy.

Ive had 3 surveys commisioned.... if thats the worst he can come up with.... sounds like a good boat!!

If they were badly corroded... it would have been a good idead from the owners POV to replace them when the liftout was done for the survey.... Oh well...

Hear, hear, they use the same manufacturer 'Reliance' as supplies M G Duff at about half or less of the cost and nice people to deal with too
