Toying with the idea of going to Douglas on the Isle of Man from Fleetwood next week,any useful tips please from anyone who has visited the Island before or are residents, is diesel more expensive to purchase in Douglas then it is in Fleetwood,is it advisable to book a berth in advance,any interesting anchorages to go to, the plan is to spend a few days around the Isle of Man before heading to Whitehaven, of course it is all weather dependant as I have some young kids on board who would not appreciate any sort of rough weather. Little Ship has just come back from there and he didn't bring me back a box of kippers.

Mind you, Mrs LS has just knocked on the door and given me a marrow sized courgette from her garden.

I thought his boat would be loaded with 21st century communication suite so that he can keep control of his empire whilst afloat,mind you having said that it seems that the most important criteria for the Welsh contingency is to keep a well stocked bar,was toying with the idea of coming to Wales but the hard drinking tactics worried me, and the cost of keeping my bar stocked,sounds more expensive than filling the boat with fuel.

Douglas no problem. Go to the waiting pontoon on the left till the gate opens.

Avoid the fuel berth if at all possible, it's a nightmare. Cards from the chandlery if you have to. Peel is probably the other option, dunno about fuel though.

we went last year, great marina in the middle of Douglas, close to shops bars etc. Daftly we couldn't get out of the gate system from within. Best you call the harbour master beforehand & ask about a mooring, and keep in touch when you arrive so you can get out. The fuel price was about the same as here, but do not use the auto system at Douglas it is as hlb says a total nightmare. Should fill up in Fleetwood.

We hired a car, that was great. There's an excellent iom gov harbours web site if you do a search, gives the gate times etc.

have visted the IOM many times, never realised you can see it from the flybridge and blackpool tower too ! Might see you there next week, we are also working round the weather.

Douglas is good. Press the button on the handrail to get out. Gate times are online. Eric is the hm great chap. Go to port Erin for a day. Fuel is a bit more expensive but very good quality by comparison. Watch out for the basking sharks!! Winds are mostly westerly at the mo so Douglas side should be good but u never know. Call up harbour ch12 before entering at channel marker as some big stuff moves and they shout at u! Have a great time!

Thanks for all the helpful info,I will check my radar to ensure it is working just in case MF causes a fog bank in the area. I will also make sure we have a good selection of alcohol on board,just in case we see you.

Thanks for the info,hopefully we will be arriving on Wednesday subject to the weather.Seen many of basking sharks on the West coast of Scotland,would not like to hit one of them at speed. Are there any Wild Dolphins in the vicinity,we see lots of porpoises in Scotland and the odd common dolphin but have never had the privilege of seeing any bottle nose dolphins in the wild, we missed out two years ago as there had been a pod of them in Tobermory a couple of days before we arrived there.

Yes
But there are some quite calm ones too
