Personally, I don't like it either. And there is a version without the stick.

I crawled all over one in the states, it's very nicely finished off of course and has some interesting design ideas but it's not for me I'm afraid. They're very frank about it - it's aimed at people who might otherwise be ready to give up sailing and buy a trawler. Why, the very thought... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Island Packets - Are they just big bath tubs with sticks?

I seem to remember a brochure about the Discovery 55 which showed a woman in a 'bath' between the wheel and the transom so IP's decision to put one in (albeit rather further forward) isn't quite so unusual.

Oddly, it's just what you want for the kids, at the other end of the sailing spectrum /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif We made do with blocking up the cockpit scuppers...

If ever there was a caravan on water, that is it. You can only helm it from inside that vast and high deckhouse (with huge windage supplied free of charge) and the aft "cockpit" is so small I am not sure why they bothered. They could have brought all the lines inside! It is just a displacement MOBO with sails as an afterthought.

Designed on an off day?

I can just picture the scene -

Marketing department want to "expand the brand into market segments with significant upside revenue potential"

The design office are busy doing more interesting things, so give the project to the trainee, with the instruction not to waste too much time on it, and reuse as many existing design elements as possible.

People like you who make comments like yours make me so angry! There's no way an Island Packet can be called a bath-tub....at that price it must surely be called a JACUZZI!! If I ever find out who sold me that plastic CQR................

My humble apologies... you are right it is a Jacuzzi on the foredeck and not a bath. Mistakes like that show my ignorance in matters of the sailcloth.

Now as to plastic CQR .... don't you think it's the way to go? Save scratching the bow and lightweight as well. I sold one at the weekend to a chap who was delighted with it. Said that it out performed some other anchor hands down, the Rocna I think.

Re: jacuzzi

Ah, it's nice to see the subtle art of advertising still has an impact. See Here though the image is no longer on the server so it's just a likkiepiccie.

Re: jacuzzi

Insoired marketing I reckon. Whic would you prefer - in the tub with that young lady or a thrash to windward. And dont say the latter because no one will believe you. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
