My md22b has earth straps connected to the 12v negative, I never understood the point of the switching on and off of the ground to the block, but then I did not know about it or understand what the bundle of spaghetti wiring was for.... ( what I do have is a domestic trip switch for the heater plugs and it has served me well for years and replaced a flimsy volvo marine reset able trip switch...)
I have an additional anode which seems to erode at a respectable rate, but not as fast as the one on the prop shaft, and I have a galvanic isolator, Also my 12v is connected to the mains earth...
but anyone who has mains on board, especially in fresh water, and does not want to earth the 12v system should read about electric shock drowning,
