Is This The Last Straw For Boating In Spain ??

My understanding is that this tax only applies to Spanish tax residents (or at least in theory). The problem is that the authorities in places like Valencia are applying it to non residents, which may or may not be illegal under EU law.

Its interesting to note that the president of Valencia is currently being investigated for fraud...

It's seems very strange that only one area would enforce a spanish law and after so long. (mentioned1992)

Valencia has 'form' already when it comes to penalizing foreigners. A group of Brits have taken the local council to court recently for taking illegal taxes on property sales. Also, it was in Valenciana that the council started to levy huge tax charges on property owners who had the misfortune to have a builder develop land adjacent to their property (the premise being, if adjacent land surrounding a property was developed, that property's value would increase!). I think this one is still being considered in the European Court
Personally, I wouldn't keep a boat or a property anywhere near Valenciana. They have a rabidly socialist local govt who obviously see foreigners as fair game

that seems par for the course out here, the jails are full of bent mayors and other council officials

Clive,

Is the boat permanently at OV now? My boat now in La
Duquesa whilst waiting for a berth here. Mind you the boat is under 7m so my understanding is that I avoid the tax!

OV ?.......... Paul if you mean Queensway then yes she is. My skipper and lovely crew will be aboard doing the charters from about mid May. Next time I am down and planning a trip out myself I'll contact you if you like. Do you work in Gib during weekdays? i.e. are you only round weekends?

Hi Clive,

Here full time now and Living in Queensway overlooking the Marina. Is she here yet, presumably going on the pontoon outside the Waterfront Restaurant? Queensway has quite a swell but as I am here will be happy to keep an eye on her! Would love a tour when you are around!

I'm not aware of an exemption for boats under 7m - do you have any sources for that info?
