Is there another forum we can go to?

I like this forum, and I know it's been slow for a while - but over the last couple of weeks it seems to be getting ridiculous. It reminds me of the bad old days of dial-up. I've also noticed that the volume of posts seems to be slowing, and I wonder if this is because other users are getting similarly frustrated, and are just giving up?

So: is there another forum that people are using?

I don't think there is really.

But I share your frustration.

I used to spend half my life on here, but now just check it once or twice a week at most. It is absolute rubbish nowadays, and IMHO, is a crazy situation that IPC are putting themselves in.

IPC needs to decide if this forum is part of their on-line strategy or not, and act accordingly. It would seem to be a very strange strategic direction they are taking, when they have established such a lead with a vital new channel, to then throw it away in the manner that they seem intent on doing. They obviously have a CEO/CFO who think that paper is the way forward.... I wonder they still also use typewriters?

Still.... their funeral....

It is just unbelievably bad here Jimmy. I've pretty much given up on it the last few weeks. If you know of another forum I'd happily join a mass move there with same user names. I've nothing against this forum, quite like it, but I just cannot spend the time waiting for pages to load and there have been promises of improvements now for literally years but they never materialise.

Does anyone have another place to suggest?

Sadly, the volumes here would destroy that kind of forum in two minutes flat.....

It would need proper care and attention with full time specialist technical skills to manage the volumes involved.

I'm registered also in smallboatclub.
Actually I didn't post a lot there, but for what I've seen, it does work.
Which is more than can be said about this place, lately....

Here's a thought. Bulletin board software is easy to get hold of - bbPhp is free, vBulletin is £100. Hosting it on a proper scalable host is easy - options start from £100 pa for shared hosting, going up from there depending on traffic. Suitable domain names are available. If there was likely to be support from the regular players on this forum then I'd certainly be willing to get it all underway. Would people be serious about moving across to the new forum? I think we need a poll....

Interesting. Fairly consistently today it's taking 20-30s to load the mobo forum index page.

Other sites that I look at are fine (I work on the internet, so I'm online virtually all the time during the working day); maybe there's an odd routing issue from their host? Ie one route is good, and the other is super slow? (I've come across this specific problem once before).

Its a UK site, mobo specific. It's hardly used at the mo', maybe someone more techy than me could ascertain how it would handle substantially more traffic?

I have a web forum that can be used, so I've registered a new domain called motorboatchat.com

I'll upload the forum to the web space as soon as it's all ready and everybody is welcome to use it (or not!). Hopefully, people will still continue to use of this forum as well, so we can have some alternate options. With the name "motorboatchat", it should attract the right sort of peeps! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
